Need advice on what to eat at San Angel Inn that is not spicy. My family likes Mexican/spicy food and we have reservations to eat at San Angel Inn during our trip in March. I, unfortunately, hate spicy food...even places like Taco John are too spicy for me. So I need advice on what I spice wimp like me could eat at San Angel Inn.

Maybe the ribeye tacos or the sirloin ordered with the sauce and peppers on the side. My DN12 had the sirloin. She hates spicy food, peppers, onions etc. and she was happy with the steak without the sauce.

Pollo a las Rajas! It's chicken with onion and poblano cream sauce, but the poblanos are NOT spicy. It was amazingly delicious and I highly recommend it!

My wife and I both enjoy spicy food, but we ate at San Angel with a couple who did not, and the wait staff went over items on the menu that weren't spicy and even offered to take the "spicy stuff" (my words not theirs) out of certain dishes. I would ask them for help. I know not everythign on the menu is spicy.

You should be fine. I've eaten at San Angel Inn 3 times and it was NOT spicey any of the times. Their food actually taste a little on the bland side, but I know that is because they are serving the masses and they have to make food that appeals to the majority.

This is why we won't be back. We have been three times, and we love Mexican food, but there was very little flavor in the food, very bland. I will say that their margaritas are good though.

We tried La Hacienda last year and thought the food had more flavor. I do really like the atmosphere of San Angel Inn! They do have good margaritas and I love their Tortilla Soup and the chips & dip! :cheer2:

Avoid the enchiladas... Holy smokes, were those spicy... :scared1:

I had the steak, which was delish (avoid the enchilada it comes with!), and the soups were also very mild. There's actually a lot there that's very mild... I wouldn't say that most of the dishes are spicy. I've never had the blandness issue though... The food has always been very vibrant and delish and flavor-packed when we went. :confused3

And I think the lime dessert is to die for.

We have dined at SAI four times and the first three times the food was excellent, not spicy at all. The last time (May 2011) the food was way too spicy for me and I like heat. Try to order it on the mild side, maybe they can accommodate you

My sympathies towards the OP. I have one DSis who can't take any strong spices in her food, she even has trouble with pesto sauce. Based on that, my comment is that people's thresholds for determining the degree of spiciness in foods is very subjective, largely based on the amount of spices to which they are already accustomed.
In the OP's place, I might order a main course salad with dressing on the side and ask for plain grilled chicken as the protein. If memory serves, they had a taco salad and you could choose which protein you wanted on it.

I just wanted to add that on one of the 5 trips my family has taken to WDW my kids went through a "plain" food stage. We found that almost every restaurant was willing to serve a plain grilled chicken breast with a plain side dish (fries, rice, noodles etc...) we supplemented with bread. Many of those nights we bought our kids a yogurt or fruit cup to eat before going into the restaurant to help supplement.

That was the trip I carried ketchup packs and mini peanut butters around in my purse to all the world showcase restaurants we ate in :rotfl: but it worked, and next trip on our first night DS ate a bite of seaweed salad at Teppanyaki (prior to Teppanedo) just to spite his sister and that was the end of his pickiness!!:lmao:

Similar problem here: I find any pepper to be too 'spicy' although I like other spices just find; I simply seem to react badly to peppers.

So has anyone had the tilapia they appear to have on the dinner menu? I saw that on the restaurant's own web site, not allears, but thought it looked like something even I could eat. Anybody tried it in real life?

I tried the tilapia over rice! Really loved it!

Didn't seem that spicy to me...you could always ask them to tone it down.
