Same show 2 nights - attend 1st or 2nd night?

Just looking at past personal navigators, it seems like the same main show will probably be playing the first and second nights of our cruise. We are first time cruisers... if the same show is playing the 1st & 2nd nights, is there any reason to go the first night? I hear the 2nd night of our cruise will be formal night so I think when we're dressed up the show might be more fun than other activities. Plus, the first night we'll have plenty of exploring to do. Any advice for me?

I personally would go the first night. Never know if something could occur that prevents you from seeing it on the second night. If you skip it the first night, and then get seasick the second night, you'd end up missing it. I'd also rather not be dressed in my fanciest clothes to watch the show, not that comfy.

On The Dream in May, they played Beauty and the Beast 2 nights in a row.
I went the first night while my husband went to watch a movie I didn't care to see.
The theater was packed.
The second night I went again with my husband and the theater was almost half empty, I preferred the second night.

I can’t believe they are doing the repeat shows. I sailed 7 nights on the Wonder February 2018 and they had something different each night. First night was sail away with snippets of the whole weeks entertainment. Then the 3 different shows. The other nights were a variety of magic, ventriloquist, and John Charles. I don’t like this change if it’s going to stay this way. My next 7 night is this November 2018 on the fantasy.

Remember to keep commenting to DCL how much this two show business frustrates you. No one knows why they are doing this, but I know that, for our trip, it made the whole thing more stressful. Rather than just going to the show each evening, we had to look ahead and figure out what was happening each evening before we figured out which night to see the show. We also completely lost the welcome show.

However, if people stop telling DCL what they think, there's no hope of going back to the normal way.

I personally like the doubling up of the shows. Especially on my Med. cruise. That way I could choose which night to go based on what we had planned each day. If we had a super long port day, we could watch the show another day when we weren't so tired.

Yes, it makes sense for port days. However this year it also happened on the sea days! Day 1 & 2 were the same - no ports. Also no welcome show. Day 6 & 7 were also the same and only 6 was a port. Last year day 6 would have been alternative entertainment.

For me it depended what were the alternatives to the main show being offered each night. I would come back to the room after dinner, look at the Navigator for the next day and decide at that point which night worked the best for the main show.

I will happily take the same Disney show 2 nights in a row after the absolutely abysmal offerings they had on the Jewel of the Seas last week. Out of 7 nights, only 1 was worth seeing - Tango Buenos Aires...and it was a repeat exactly (same couple even) from Brilliance 2 years ago. The ONE production show they offered was the nightmare-inducing City of Dreams from Radiance 3 years ago, some creepy contortionists, a group that couldn't hold a pitch if they tried called "Emperors of Soul", and some French "performance artist". Made for some pretty dull nights at sea.

Someone posted a Navigator from the 11 night Fantasy Southern Caribbean last week, they were lucky with no repeats.
Saw one today from the 9 night Alaskan cruise and there are 3 shows that will be repeated, so dumb. This cruise was a premium price because of the extra 2 nights and they get 3 repeats.
I mean all DCL cruises are expensive but these "special" cruise are really high.

Someone also reported here that the 5-night dream double dip was back to having Golden Mickeys as of late June. No word yet on whether that means repeat shows or all three on the 3-night.

Yes, you can see the schedule for the entire cruise as soon as the cruise goes "live" (should be in the terminal while you're waiting to board).

We had repeats on the Wonder. However, the third shows were at a different time than usual, so it's not necessarily something you'll have a choice about without skipping dinner. It might actually work fine for you, with late seating. However, the way they scheduled it was totally useless for anyone doing main dining or wanting to eat in Cabanas for dinner. They had the "extra" stage show at 7:15pm. So - one night it was at the usual two times, and the other night it was once at 7:15. There was no way we were going to get there by 7:15pm with main dining at 5:45 unless we skipped courses and the pre-show bathroom break! And Cabanas was only open 6:30-8:30pm for dinner - so that was impossible too. I honestly don't know how that's helpful for thinning out crowds, when late dining has less people anyway, and they're the only ones who could theoretically attend a 7:15 show. Of course, I guess people might just get deck food or room service, but no way would I do that just to attend the 7:15 show, when it was still showing at regular times the other night. If they really wanted to thin out the show crowds, then have the extra one at like 4:00pm, for the little kids, or 8:30 so everyone eating main dining or in Cabanas could easily attend. It just made no sense. I got a survey once we returned and was asked how I liked the show schedule, and I pretty much ripped it apart. I am totally fine with them adding a third show, but the way they did it made zero sense to me.
