I have gotten a couple calls within the last day or so from this same number. Whenever I pick up they do not say anything. If I leave it to voice mail they don't leave a message. How can they get my number if it is a cell phone? I do not give it out to anyone. What is the do not call number listing?

What you have there is probably someone who got the number from the previous person to have it. This is especially common with cell phones for about the first two years of service on a given number. The best way to handle it if your phone can, is to put the number on its blocked list. The "do not call" registry doesn't apply to individuals.

For some reason, this person probably believes that the person who gave him the number still has access to the phone, and is calling repeatedly in hopes that the person who is being sought will finally answer it.

My cell phone had this problem, and it seemed the previous holder of the number was QUITE the ladies man. Apparently he had also given out the instruction that if a woman answers, hang up. Finally one of them was desperate enough (or ticked off enough) to insist on speaking to him. When I told her I didn't know anyone of that name and never had, she didn't want to believe me. It took quite a while to convince her that I was telling the truth.

By the way, I also used to know a lot of young women who deliberately gave out random phone numbers in bars, to get guys to leave them alone.
I got one of these a few months ago, when some guy sent me a photo text message. I was at work, so I ignored it. A few minutes later he called and asked "Leslie" what I thought of the photo. When I told him he had the wrong number he BEGGED me to delete the photo without looking at it, LOL.

I had some guy texting me at all hours of the morning, I'd be sleeping at 2 am and he would text me. It happened every few nights over a couple of weeks, finally I sent him a reply that said "who are you and how do I know you?" so he called me!!!! "girl, you know me, don't play" "NO I have NO idea who you are or how you got my number" "girl, you gave it to me at the club, stop playing" "I haven't been to a club in at least 6 months, WHO ARE YOU?" "girl, stop, you hard to get I get more determined, what you doing tonight, where you working?" "I'm not working, I'm on vacation, with my BOYFRIEND, would you care to talk to him?" click.....I thought that would end it, but that very evening I got another text, I had turned my phone off tho because I didn't trust him so I got it in the morning. The text was "girl, where you working tonight, you working now?" It was 4 am when I got it. I replied "Look dumbxxx you don't know me, stop texting me, do not call me, if you bother me again I will go to the police" his reply "sheesh, sorry, don't get all rude about it"...I'd already told him I didn't know him, what else was I supposed to do? LOL Yes, the police threat was a bit much but still......I use my phone as an alarm clock, I do not want a random text at 2 am when I have to get up for work at 6:30.....it worked, he stopped....LOL

Have you tried to call the number back?

I'll admitted it. I did this a few times back in my single days. Something like this is most likely what happened to the OP. Just last week I got two calls from a strange number. The first went to voice mail with no message left. I answered the second call, and the caller hung up. I really wouldn't worry about it.

I had a kid who used to call my cell all the time a few years ago...apparently, he was staying with his grandmother and thought he was calling his mother in FL. If he didn't dial the FL area code, our phone numbers were the same. After he'd called a few times and I'd politely told him that he had the wrong number, he had his grandma call and together we figured out what the problem was.

He still calls every now and again...I just ended up saving his number as a contact as "Wrong Nbr Kid" so I know who it is.

Is there a way to block it with your provider?

I had this happening to our house phone. They repeatedly called, hang up, call back, hang up. You get the picture. I got ticked called back and left a message. Still happened. I signed them up for university of phoenix. they haven't called back.;)

You don't hear a thing if you wait a bit? An old phone of mine kept getting calls from a fax machine for a while. It turned out that I had a very similar number to a business' fax machine.

I had people to do that when I got my new cell phone it so annoying. I finally called the number back and asked who they were trying to reach and explained to them this was a new person with this number. I haven't got a call since

Usually you can contact your cell phone company and get certain numbers blocked from your caller list. My mom had an interesting problem with her cell phone. She found this "deal" where there was no sign up fee for to get this cell phone, and her plan was essentially a pay as you go but because there were no fees of any kind and the cell phone was free, she was charged a certain amount of money per min. That was fine for her as she had the phone for emergencies only.

Get this, every single day at the exact same time, she received a phone call. She would pick, no one would be on the other end. After 2 weeks of this, she realised what was going on. That cell company, had a system where they would make this phone call every single day, at the exact same time which turned out that she end up paying the exact same as if she were a regular cell phone subscriber.

Cell phone companies are in it to rip you off. We were stupid to have grabbed that cell but thank God, smart enough to quickly realize what was going on.

If you know the number, use one of the internet phone books to find out who it is.

I did it once in college, too. A week or so later he saw me on campus and said, "you know, the phone number you gave me was the wrong number." I said, "It was?! I'm sorry," and kept walking. I felt bad about it, but not nearly as bad as I felt when the guy ended up having a son in my son's kindergarten class! :scared1: I don't know if he recognized me or not, but he brought his son to my son's birthday party, so if he did I guess there were no hard feelings.

It could be any number of reasons, but from my experience it could be someone else once had that number (as a pp stated).

I had it happen to me. Some whackadoodle kept calling my number asking for some guy. I told her she had the wrong number. She went off, telling me I was lying (!), it was his number, asked me who I was, and where was this guy. I told her I didn't know this guy and this was my phone. It didn't matter what I said. She called a for a few more days. Most times I didn't answer. Finally I told her stop calling me. She said she would call as often as she liked. (Okay nutty buddy.) So I said, go ahead, I'll call the police and press charges against you for harassment, I have your number. The calls stopped.

did you google the number? you can at least find out where the number is based. and some sites like reversephonelookup.com (i think that's it) will even tell you if its landline or cell phone.
