Just in case this is useful to anybody else:

I generally do an angel on the Salvation Army Angel Tree. I found out last night that you can actually go through JCPenney to do that. You put in the zip code that you want, and they pull up candidates for you to choose from (just like on the actual tree at the mall).

I liked that I was able to make a choice, do my shopping online (through JCP - on sale and used a code too), and have it shipped directly to the Salvation Army (there's an ID number for the child). No fighting crowds at the mall! :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for posting this! I love doing the Angel Tree but I try to avoid the mall at all costs.

This is a great idea!!!

That's what I thought too. I know it's a good marketing idea for JCP, but it helps me out a lot. Plus, I found great deals online, so I was very pleased. :thumbsup2

ETA: Somebody else posted (on the budget board) FULL30 for 30% off (yesterday and today or today and tomorrow, but today for sure!).

It is SO funny you just posted this, I was coming on to do the same as I just received the email from JCP. DD and I are going to sit down and select an "Angel" and pick things out for her. She is a very luck little girl and I want to develop her empathy and I think this is a good way to do it. :thumbsup2

That's what we always did. My "little girl" is 22 and married now, but this was always one of our favorite parts of Christmas.

Also, I know that JCP gave me a 20% off code to use with my order, so I'm assuming they do that with everybody who registers. :goodvibes

We stopped by our local Salvation Army to pick up names for their Angel Giving Tree (Why our local malls stopped having these in house I do not know or even want to guess but they don't, still thank you Salvation Army for having them) and I wanted to know if anyone knows any retailers giving discounts if you purchase for the Giving Tree this year. We do this every year and while our dollars are also limited we try and get as much bang for our buck when we do this. We have three Angels this year, one who wants a pair of pants, another a shirt and another books. Each will get a full outfit for Christmas morning/day as well as a age appropriate gift to open and if a retailer is discounting then the $ we have set aside for each child goes just that much farther. Anyone know if any corporations are helping out this year?

I didn't even hear from JCP this year so I don't know whether they continued with the program. I initiated a program in our church this year to sponsor all of the foster children in our county (individual families sponsoring a child or families joining together) and helped provide toys for a mission in Memphis so I didn't do the regular Angel Tree. I haven't seen any discounts. Good luck!

I suggest you do this quickly. It took over 2 weeks for the items I ordered to get to our local Salvation Army. They distribute here on the 18th, so I wouldn't take too long to do this.

Great partnership!
