Salt water or chlorinated?

Thanks! DS hates salt water pools. He skipped out on the drop tower slide on our Carnival cruise because it was salt water. He'll be thrilled!

Hi,

I second what dscasseta said, fresh water is used everywhere on the ship.

*******************************************Useless, "out of interest" information incoming!***************************************************************

The water used is from whats called "technical water" tanks. It is the same water which is used by the high pressure cleaners on deck.

The water is either made by filtration or evaporation. Filtration is done by reverse osmosis, ie very fine filters that only water molecules can pass through. The other method, which is used when the ship is underway, is using an evaporator, this uses the waste heat from the engines to boil off water within a vacuum.

The water produced by both methods is then treated and stored for use.

Each of the Dream class vessels have two of each, for redundancy.

I seem to remember the water being pretty heavily chlorinated as well. Our DD always brings her goggles because she said the water stings her eyes.

The hot tubs were very heavily treated and burned my eyes and made me itchy.
Not sure what they use but the adult pool did not bother me..

There's a reason. There are people who think their little darling is potty trained "enough" to use the pool.

To be more blunt, the burning sensation isn't due to the water being "heavily treated". It's the reaction that occurs when a nitrogenous compound mixes with chlorine. There's a little bit of nitrogen in, say, sweat, but by far the most prominent source of nitrogenous waste in a pool is urea (the major waste product in urine).

The hot tubs aren't heavily treated with chlorine. They're heavily peed in. And most of that ain't coming from kids whose toilet training is questionable.

Drives me absolutely nuts when parents feel their children should be in a spa - absolutely ruins the experience for those who want to enjoy it without children who somehow feel the spa is a great place to splash and yell

This it at hotels and on cruise ships - parents with absolutely zero self awareness or respect for others

There should NOT be children in the hot tubs in the adult area...
