Are the pools filled with salt water on DCL like on other cruiselines?? I would love if at least the kids pool was fresh water!!

That alone makes the extra money for a Disney cruise worth it!!

Would be interesting to see what ships still use saltwater......I've been on the Amsterdam, Magic and the Pride of America in recent years, all fresh water.
I cruised The Norway, the Soverign of the Seas, the Nordic Prince and the Mermoz in the 80's, all salt water.

We sailed Carnival Inspiration 2006 & one of the NCL ships to Bermuda in 2005. Both ship's pools were salt water.

I guess they are "fresh" at some point, but they sure dont look "fresh" after a few hours :thumbsup2

Every cruise I've been on has had salt water...but we usually sail the cheaper lines (Carnival and Royal Caribbean) so I am guessing maybe there is a correlation between more expensive cruiselines and fresh water pools??

The Freedom of the Seas and its sisters have fresh water pools. I hated it at the end of the day, the water was just gross. Much cleaner in the salt water on Celebrity. Princess has fresh water pools as well.

I hope the reports of the Goofy pool getting gross by day's end are not true. What time do they open anyway?

The interesting thing is that every time we went, it appears that the Mickey and Goofy pools were drained and refilled at least once for one reason or another. One time it was because someone got sick in the pool. Everyone had to get out and they roped it off. It was drained then cleaned. It was fully refilled by the next morning.

Sure, it was somewhat of an inconvenience, but they sure take hygiene seriously, which I view as a good thing.

We saw the Mickey pool closed a couple times & it does make it difficult for kids who arent big enough for the Goofy pool. I am pretty sure they drain & refill the Mickey pool every morning. The Wonder has added the splash area, so that will help keep kids occupied when the pool is closed for "cleaning" ;) I imagine the Magic will get this next drydock.

The Mickey pool gets more & more cloudy as the day goes by, kids + sunscreen + who knows what

Actually, the pools are not really "fresh" water ... they are desalinated salt water. Not that it makes any difference ... just a tidbit of useless information.

ITA kjccr. Our dd LOVED the pool, and playing in it was one of the highlights for her..... don't think she would have liked salt water pools. Frankly I have never liked them myself, but understand why they have them elsewhere.

The pools on the Caribbean Princess are all freshwater too. We were going on the Magic for Christmas, but had something come up. We book mini-suites on the CP for $1159 per person. $600 less than an Cat 11 on the Magic.

Well, to me that would be fresh water. Sort of like in Los Angeles where they treat and recycle waste water and send it out again as drinking water.
Someone figured out that when you drink a glass of water in Los Angeles, you are the 8th person to drink that same water.....um.:lmao:
