Is there such a thing as a salt substitute or something that can be used to make foods more tasty? Some things just taste so bland and I would love to be able to make them more appealing without adding salt.

Mrs. Dash makes a variety of seasoning blends that don't contain salt.

Hi Debbi -

Morton makes a product called Lite Salt Mixture. It contains 290mg of sodium per quarter teaspoon. Table salt contains 590mg.

Hope that helps :D

Thanks, I will have to look into them.

Does anyone have any idea the amount of salt that it is ok to consume in a day?

WebMD's sources recommend not more than 1500mg to reduce high BP. In the same article, it indicates that the US government's recommendation is 2400mg/day but they feel that is too high for a healthy lifestyle. The article goes on to point out that most Americans consume 3300mg of sodium/day, which is definitely not in the healthy range.
