Can people with kids who did salsa and salsa excursion give me a brief review? Either in costa maya or Cozumel!

Did the kids enjoy it? mine will be 8 and 10 at time of cruise, not really into salsa, but like to cook, dance and love the beach/ocean (none were we are from in central canada).

Thanks

I'm interested in hearing any reviews of this excursion, also.

I wish there was an excursion review sticky.

I don't have kids, but I have done Salsa and Salsa in Cozumel and Cabo. Both experiences were similar. First, it's a lot of sitting. The salsa dance lessons don't come until the end. Any beach time was sort of on one's own after the salsa-making and the salsa dancing.

At Cozumel, you start with a lesson in margaritas and make a traditional one first, then learn how to make a strawberry one (that one gets poured for you). They have nonalcoholic options for those who are too young (or opt not) to drink. At both times I did this excursion, we were in port with other ships and so this excursion was filled with other cruise passengers at the tables. Unlimited margaritas are offered, so you can expect to see things get silly pretty quickly. At Cozumel, I think we made 6 different salsas (it's mostly cutting vegetables, mashing things with the mortar and pestle, or combining ingredients). I don't see Costa Maya on the official website (but do see it on DCL's) so I suspect it's a "travelling version" that's abbreviated.

The website is http://www.salsaandsalsa.com

You get unlimited tortilla chips for your salsas, a cheese quesadilla, and some chicken taquitos.

This is a wonderful idea!

I will be at Salsa & Salsa with my family next week. :cool1: I will try to give you a review on it when we return.

The getting silly and the too much sitting is what I am worried about! ...

We are non-drinkers, and DD has never been around anyone drinking. I'm hoping that it doesn't get too out of control. I'll let you know.

We did this in December with our 15 year old. Very fun!

They provide alcoholic and non-alcoholic margaritas. You make guacamole and 2-3 salsas. Very fun! The dancing is okay. My hubby and daughter danced and I watched them.

I bought the recipe book and a lime squeezer from the ladies.

Very fun and good for the whole family. I would do it again.

If the kids want to stand up and walk around they can it is pretty informal.

I didn't even think about souvenirs here! The recipe book is definitely something we would enjoy. Do you happen to remember what type of items they had and any price ranges? Thanks!

If you just want the recipes for the salsas you made, they give you those free as a photocopied handout.

I think recipe book was $10 and lime squeezer $8.00

Just wanted to pop back and say we did salsa salsa with the kids, 8 & 10 in costa maya.

Well... Maybe a 7 out of 10.

- the food was delicious really, and we have actually made the guacamole at home a few times.
-lots to drink, alcohol, beer, bottled water and canned pop/juice
-the salsa dancing was a bit lame, but my whole family participated (maybe I didn't have enough blue drink or beer??)
- the hotel we were at was open and not very pretty, table cloths were plastic, as well as the tables, and kids couldn't keep their "chef hats"?.
-the cab ride back was scary.. They drive worse then cabbies in Toronto!!
-the city, right outside of the port seems really poor, and rundown, pretty sad.
-the beach time afterwards was nice, but the Mexican merchants were in full swing and it was hard to sit back, relax and have fun where ever 2 mins someone is trying to sell you something.

We did this in Cozumel with our son 7. We were the only ones from DCL there, everyone else was from a different cruise line. He was also the only child. He made his (virgin) drinks and helped us with our salsa's and most of the rest of the time was quite happy playing with the lime squeezer at which he became the expert! We then did the dancing as a 3 which he enjoyed. After that we went out to the "beach" area when we stayed for probably another couple of hours relaxing and swimming in the sea - there were quite a few colourful fish. We opted to walk back to the ship rather than take the DCL taxi so got to stay as long as we wanted. We also had the option of using the hotel pool, but it was so hot in the enclosed pool area, we preferred to stay in the sea. The walk back to the ship only took about 10 - 15 mins and felt completely safe. Our son said he enjoyed it and never once complained he was the only child, though being an only child he is used to entertaining himself. Overall we thought it was an enjoyable family day out and were pleased we had chosen it, especially as our other excursions were all beach trips.

In Costa Maya we did the Jungle beach break and our son LOVED it, he still laughs out loud at the thought of Mum falling off the floating obstacle course repeatedly. We would do that one again if we went back to Costa Maya.
