I worked at McDonald's ages ago. I don't know if its a franchise choice or not but I can tell you my store NEVER had a drink included with the combos. So when you picked your size drink you got charged, small, medium or whatever. I don't think most customers ever noticed that the cost extra unless they "super sized" the order which a lot of people did. But the guy who owned my store was terrible to work for. 1 person breaks the rules, nobody in the store got raises that cycle. Fry station catches on fire, put it out yourself and keep the store open(true story, store manager got reamed out for calling the fire dept and closing the store so they could actually do their job). We used to call our owner the worst franchiser in they system. Might have been true

You've obviously not been in the McDonalds I worked at. Trust me, my owner knew EVERY SINGLE WAY to get around the corporate rules and did it on a regular basis. I imagine he still does, but I live a few states away now and don't miss the store or anyone I worked with back then. If he could tack on a lousy 5 cents to your bill he did it.

Working sales these days sucks. If you're not being forced to sell credit card applications instead of merchandise, you have to meet quotas for upselling or number of times you greet a customer, rather than providing good service and solid, steady sales. It's all about quick, easy money right now. There is no long-term strategy or focus. And the rules are such that it's almost impossible to follow them and meet the so-called goals. It's so that they can fire people and not have to give them raises. And of course, the service goes down since there is constant turnover.

Last few phone issues were handled at a nearby Target. There's a young guy who is really helpful/knowledgeable and he seems to be there every time we need something. He's our go-to guy now for phones.

Sorry, wasn't trying to doubt your story, just wanted to indicate it's normal (at least here) for drinks to be included in the price.

ugh i feel the same way.

i went to best buy about a month ago to look at a few tablets and as soon as i walked over to them a salesperson walked up and asked if i needed help.
i said i was just looking and i'd let him know if i had a question.
he walked away and within 30 seconds another person walked up and asked if i needed help. i politely said i was just looking.
no more than a mintue later ANOTHER person walked up and asked if i needed help. i said "no but if i do you'd be the 3rd person in line for me to ask a question to".
then one more person walked up and asked if i needed help.
i said "seriously i can see you all standing around 20 feet away from me and you don't think that i'm aware that as soon as one of you walks away the next person from the group standing over there comes up to me? is this some kind of game? are you really that bored? now i'm not buying a tablet from here so none of you get a sale." and i walked right out and went elsewhere.

This is why I don't go to Victoria's Secret anymore. Too many people offering to help me, and then being too aggressive and what I feel is too personal. I can look through the drawer myself. No, I don't want a fitting. I really don't need you to announce my size to the whole store, and I definitely don't need you to take my name and size and write it in the door so you can bring me other options to consider. Honestly, I just want to pick out my underwear in peace, is that a lot to ask?

Same at my retail store. All that matters at the end of the day is opening new credit accounts. That is it. We don't get fired for not meeting our goal but they will threaten to cut your hours.
