My daughter called this morning, she's on a class trip this weekend to MA. They went on the Candlelight Witch Tour last night in Salem, she said that weird things were happening to everyone's electronics. Some of the kids had digital cameras and they said weird things were showing up on the pictures. She told me it was freaking them out.

Has anyone ever done this tour? Are these just over emotional teenagers or just this really happen up there?

I have taken the tour, and nothing like that happened. But I can guarantee that the guides are experts at playing up these glitches. It's good for business :-) Seriously, I wouldn't worry unless your daughter is easily frightened.

*shrugs* It might happen. I'm used to ghosts so something like that wouldn't be scarey. Salem was the site of alot of pain after all.

Most likely though, they are just kids playing games.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Is the Candle light tour the one that meets outside the visitors center. The one with supposedly real paranormal investigators?? I f it is I took that one and it was not all that good or all that long for the money. They claim in the ad they have pictures but they really do not.
What I will tell you is I also took the one that meets on the conner of the Common mainly because I knew one of the people who was giving it. Anyway, there were two guides on the tour and when we got to the house (cannot remember the name) next to the Dunkin' Donuts) Moira the second guide would not walk on the property. I asked my friend why this was and she told me that when they were practicing and rehersing for the tour they were sitting on the wall of the property. Moira was was distinctly PUSHED off the wall. At first she thought that it was my friend or one of the other guides. Since they were all sitting next to each other they could not have pushed one another from behind w/o one of the others knowing or seeing it. Moira was petrified. She decided she would not go on the property. IN additiion, aside from the tour, she told us of some of the houses she had been in and spoken to the people who had lived in them. She said that the tour was nothing compared to some of th stuff that was happening in the private homes.
It is not that this stuff occurs only in Salem it is just that we look at Salem under a microscope each October.

Anyone ever take an tours with Robert Ellis Cahill? He used to give them but now I hear he lives down in Fla. Does anyone know if he still does tours.

That house next to the Dunkins was hidden behind a building for years. It was discovered when they were remodeling the building in the front. They ended up tearing down the newer building to expose the older one. I've read that some people saw the shadow of a woman in the window when it was first opened up. Maybe she was the one that pushed the guide off the wall? I haven't heard of more sightings lately.
Sorry I don't have any ideas other than the candlelight tour that starts near the wax museum. It gets so crowded over there that we mostly stay away.

I haven't done any of the really touristy stuff in Salem. I'd like to one of these days. But I worked in Salem for years, had a boyfriend there for years, walked around everywhere at any hour of the day or night - never saw anything really weird, except for a few (live) people. My grandmother's always been active in the preservation and historical societies, especially with the House of Seven Gables. I should ask her.

I did however meet a dead guy (the walking-dead kind) once in Danvers, at a bowling alley. Danvers is only a mile or so from Salem...

I go to Salem all the time. And yes, weird stuff happens there a lot but it's pretty much all harmless. Given that this happened on a tour, I would not be surprised if it was just a few coincedences though, and the tour guide was playing it up.

Teejay32 - Danvers was part of Salem during the witch trial days and the actual witch trial hangings took place there.

See, only on the DIS would people believe me. Whenever I mention it, people are

, but it's true! :teeth:
