At my old job it was 45 hours. At this job there is no expectation, and I never never never work 40 hours, it's usually around 35. I don't think that's the norm, though,

I am not salaried but my hubby is. He works his 40 hours and occasionally stays late to finish some things up. He might leave early the next day but if he does not he is not compensated for his extra time.

My dad on the other hand, as a manager they expect him to work at least 50 hours a week or what ever is required to keep the place running smoothly (a country club).

Somewhere from 45 and up.

I average anywhere from 49 to 55 depending on the week

For me, it's 40-45, for DBF it's however long he needs to stay to finish so he is at work for 10-12 hours sometimes. :(

My husband is in the engineering field and he is expected to work until the work is done. Pay is based on 40, but due to the nature of the business, with his past employer and with his current employer--since hours are billable, he does get paid straight time for overtime.

It is not uncommon for him to put in 45-50 hours--and sometimes more. We've had paychecks with a full extra paycheck in them before.

But since what he does can get mind numbing--unless it is a deliverable, his brain will usually shut down before much more than that.

Im expected to work at least 40, but usually am closer to 45 or 50. Depends on if I am working on projects, or there is a problem.

I put 35-40 since that is what I actually do (I have fibro and do not have the stamina for true 8 hr days) but trust me I accomplish more that 40 hrs of quality work. My DH is over 50 but he is well compensated.

In my younger years when I was ambitious and trying to please, I would put in about 60 hours a week and get paid for 40. If you do the math ones hourly rate plummets quite rapidly under those conditions.

By simply living long enough to figure it out, I saw that it was actually not getting me anyplace. First rule of thumb...if you don't think you are worth something, no one else will either. It is a big chance and it doesn't always work unless you really are valuable, not just think you are.

As I got more mature (and by that I mean old), I no longer cared if I was valued or not. Hence, I just do 40 hours now unless there is an emergency and I will then give whatever time is necessary, but as a normal weekly thing...about 40. I now make more money then I ever did, feel more job security then I ever did and am a lot less tired.

WARNING: The above statement was not in anyway an endorsement for fluffing off at work, especially if you are just starting out, and I will deny that I ever said anything if something bad happened and swear that someone else wrote this post using my name. Nope, never even saw this thread.

My husband is salary now..just started this year. He is supposed to work 40 hours a week give or take a few. He works over 50 a week though on a regular basis. Today he is still there and is now on 13 hours just for today. BUT, it was either go on salary and only take a 5,000.00 pay cut OR go with hourly rates and be cut down to 32 hours a week and lose lots more. Stinks being a manager right now. He has to make sure everything is done..less people at work to actually do the jobs..so now he is stuck working much harder and longer. At least he has a job though so we try not to complain too much.

Is anyone here salaried, but part time? I was just wondering if that was normal or not. I am salaried, but am committed to 28 hours/week. I end up putting in anywhere between the 28 - 33 ish hours per week depending on what is going on. I get paid for 28 hours...anything above that is unpaid.

Legally it is 365 days 24 hours a day.

Fortunately it doesn't happen. It's a way of not paying overtime.

Depends on the week. I work until the work is done. Most weeks I work about 45-50. Some more, some less.

I selected "other". I work for the State of NC and I have to work 40 hours a week; no less or no more period.

I can't remember the last time I worked under 50hrs in a week that didn't include a holiday or vacation day.

There have been times when it could get up to 60 hours a week but lately there have not been many "overnights" or emergencies. I have been pretty close to a little more than 40 hours per week. :thumbsup2

I'm salaried and was expected to put in 35 hours a week of work time. I usually worked through lunch, stayed late, and most weeks had about 40 to 45 hours. We got the extra time over 35 hours as comp time, which meant during slow times, I could come in late, take days off, etc and not use my vacation time.

I just reduced my work week to 63 hours per two week pay period. So far, since reducing my hours and pay, I'm averaging about 35 to 38 hours a week.

One of my partners (who is expected to do 35 hours a week) usually racks up about 45 to 50 hours per week. The other usually get 37 hours a week. Fortunately, we love our jobs so we don't mind working over. There are other officers in our department who will not put in one minute over the 35 expected hours.

I am a flight attendant. I am guaranteed pay for 75 hours a month, even if I work 1 hour. Anything over 75 hours, I get paid my regular wage on top of my guarantee. But I am "expected" to fly 75 hours a month.

I'm salaried, technically at 20 hours/week. Some weeks much more than that, I also have flexibility to go less than that if the kids are sick/whatever. it all evens out in the end.
