I have posted before on the culinary board and there is not enough traffic there so I wanted to post this here.... if the mods think it should be moved then OK....

I need a good salad recipe... I want the traditional salad with lettuce and cucumbers and tomatoes... what else do you put on your salad and if you have any recipes for a good dressing please let me know......

I cook a few pieces of bacon really crisp and break it up into pieces. Some grated cheddar cheese, hard boiled egg, some croutons. I like this with a honey mustard dressing.

Well I love cheese, croutons, sunflower seeds, chick peas, onions, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, olives, boiled eggs and bacon.

chopped bottle roasted red peppers, those fresh mozzeralla balls, some good olives (i like kalamata), some toasted pine nuts-dress it with a good balsalmic vinigrette

I just started having dried cranberries, feta cheese and low-cal balsamic vinegrette dressing along with the other things you mentioned. It's rather addicting.

Otherwise, a southwestern type salad with the Butterball pre-cut chicken, corn, black beans, low-fat cheddar & avacado with low-cal ranch. Yummy!

For my salads, I use romaine or baby greens, a nut (walnuts, pine nuts, almonds), a cheese (blue, goat, feta, romano), a fruit (dried cranberries, sliced grapes, madarin oranges), olive oil, and either balsamic or red wine vinegar, depending upon the cheese. Oh, and some croutons! :thumbsup2

I was just on the land o lakes site and saw a salad with a maple balsamic dressing that looked good. I am thinking that might go good with my prime rib for Christmas.

I like lettuce (romaine works, prefer mixed baby greens), cherry tomatoes cut in half, a diced avocado, pecans (I usually coat with sugar water and then toast them), and dried cranberries. It's also good with chicken if you want to make a meal out of it.

My favorite dressing for the above salad is dirt simple and always gets rave reviews. The avocado kind of mixes with the dressing to make it "creamy".

1/3 c. white sugar
1/4 c. cider vinegar
1/2 c. oil (plain vegetable is best, I find olive oil too overpowering for this recipe)
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt.

Add ingredients to a jar and shake. I usually just use a 1/2 c. measuring cup and eyeball it 2/3 full with the sugar and half full with the vinegar. Takes less than two minutes to make.

Every time I make it to take somewhere this one gets rave reviews:

SALAD

(1) Head of Romaine Lettuce
(1) Apple
(1) Pear
(1) Cup Dried Cranberries
(1/2) Cup Shredded Swiss Cheese
(1) Cup Cashews

Core and cube apple and pear (I put lemon juice on them to keep them from turning brown). Mix all ingredients together.

Dressing

1/3 cup white vinegar
2/3 cup canola oil (or other light oil)
1/2 cup sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice
½ tsp. salt
2 tsp. minced onion (optional)
2-3 tsp. poppyseed

Mix well.

As long as it doesn't have any fruits or nuts in it I am happy. I like everything else. Load it up with anything but those and I am good to go!
