Sailing the Ocean Blue...October 6, 2012 Eastern Fantasy

Wow! I just now have time to see what has been going on the past few weeks. Welcome to all of the new cruisers. I was so excited to see the countdown of Fridays. Makes it sound like it's less time. My dd15 has been very sick  the last few weeks and was in Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital for a week with Acute Renal Failure. She has no history of medical problems. For some reason (which us and the pediatric nephrologist have no idea) her kidneys stopped working. She had a kidney biopsy and was on high dose steroids and diuretics. Our nephrologist was so amazing that we barely escaped dialysis despite other physicians saying that she should be on it. She gave her a little extra time for her kidneys to start working and waited until the last minute and we managed to avoid it. What a sigh of relief. She is better now and back in school but still weak, on steroids and blood pressure medicine due to the kidneys being injured. It will take about 6 weeks for her kidneys to heal. But they are functioning better and they are able to decrease dosages on steroids and discontinue some meds. She still has a lot of swelling in her legs, feet, face, and abdomen but the physician thinks it is more from the prednisone now as the kidney problems. Anyway, I'm glad to be back in the group. It has been a rough few weeks and the cruise is sounding better each day.:flower3:

MickeyMinnieMelanie, I hope your DD has a speedy recovery and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult and stressful time. I am so happy that she is on the mend and she has an awesome trip to look forward to. As a mother and grandmother, I may not know exactly what you are going through, but I know I would be losing my mind if I had to deal with what you are dealing with. Best wishes :goodvibes

:grouphug: MickeyMinnieMelanie, I am so sorry to hear about your DD. I hope and pray that she gets stronger every day. I am glad you checked in, you were missed!

My husband and I are Ham Radio operators. Are there any fellow Hams that will be joining us on this cruise?

I got in on the old no code Tech Plus but have been studying for the General & Extra now that code isn't required anymore. Took my 2m / 70cm HT on the Magic once but never transmitted. Didn't want to ask the Captain.

What about Parrotheads? Anyone claim to be a Parrothead??
We are the people our parents warned us about!! Fins Up!!

My husband is a General (KC2DAA) when the code was 5 wpm. I have my Tech ticket (KC2ITY). I do not operate that much, I do not want a radio in my car and right now our radio room is dismantled because of the flood.

I do way more listening than talking, and use them more for scanners than two-way radios. Flood damage to the house is bad enough, hope you didn't loose any equipment.

We lost about three radios...and too many other things to mention on our basement in garage :(
