Can someone please tell me all about this (planning our first cruise :rotfl: )? I have a ds(8) :maleficen , can I bring confetti poppers for him? Or something else?? I am really hoping this will be a special trip for him! :goodvibes Thanks!

Those confette poppers are NOTHING compared to that horn sounding.....

They bring out the characters & do a countdown before the horn sounds & begin moving out to sea. They have some CMs do some dancing, band plays some songs, it is pretty neat. It is on deck 9 unless it is bad weather then they do it inside...

I would leave the confetti poppers at home, but bubbles are a big hit. We bought a box of the small bottled bubbles & passed them out to the kids around us. The confetti poppers tend to make a mess......

We used the poppers during the sail-away party and during the pirate party. The DCL phone rep. said they were fine to use, so I guess that they didn't mind the mess. We brought bubbles too, but they didn't last long with the breeze we had at departure time (plus the bubble solution made for some very clean yet still dirty hands). :goodvibes We also brought some glow necklaces that our sons used at dinner when we ate in AP, and they also wore them to the Pirate Deck Party (tons of people asked where we bought them, so I'm guessing that DCL could make some good money if they ever decided to sell them on-board-plus they make fun night-lights)

You DS will have a blast no matter what you bring!

Here are some photos of our sailaway party.

As you can tell Disney has alot of confettii already, but bubbles are great. Just watch out for the horn. DD4 was worried the whole trip about when the horn was going to go off.

Great pictures! :cool1:

Bubbles are a biggie, as are streamers, confetti, and anything else fun. Glad I'm not the one cleaning the dack!

Wow, is the entire deck crowded like that? I guess at sailaway it's probably packed with almost everyone up there... Is there anywhere you can hang out and hear the music and have fun, but not be packed in like sardines?

I agree, and I don't recommend having your 11-month old anywhere near it when it goes off.....

Be sure to look back at the Disney cruise terminal when sailing away. You'll see Disney staff wearing big white Mickey hands and waving Bon Voyage to you. It's really cute! :flower:

Up on Deck 10....it is less croweded than down on Deck 9. Most people on Deck 10 are looking over the railing from 10 down to 9, but anywhere mid-ship on Deck 10 and you can hear the music....

Honestly, if you participate in the party, you won't have time to pop the poppers (or blow bubbles) at the right moment....i.e. as the horn sounds. You'll be so busy dancing and watching and singing and then - confetti and the horn. My recommendation would be: Experience it, don't worry about having the popper in your hand.

You could head somewhere with a more open deck (9 is pretty plexiglassed in) to blow bubbles over the railing and watch the ship sail out.

I see lots of posts that refer to the DCL horn. What does it sound like (if it can be described)? I'm assuming from the posts here that its really, really loud?

MarkRG has it on his website http://monorailgreen.info/Cruise.html
I wouldn't say it is really loud, maybe some area it is but never really noticed. It certainly brings back memories everytime I hear it...

I have the DCL horn as my new email notification. It makes me smile throughout the day at work. :earsboy:

Oooh, I just listened to it and it gave me chills!!! I didn't think that could happen on this warm summer day!!! Thanks!!!!!

Apparently, Disney captains like to have "horn wars" in ports when they are parked next to ships from other lines. Another line will blow its horn to announce departure and DCL does a friendly (and yet, so much of a "we have a way cooler horn") reply.

I can't wait until that horn is blowing with me and my family there in person.

So the sail away party is on deck 9, there are fewer people on deck 10, and probably very few on the secluded deck 7 aft??? True?

Just clickin the days down...
