Safety Tip

On our last trip to WDW, my DW and me, made this ID TAG for our 3 yo DS.

If you want the High resolution PDF file, let me know ;)

Let me tell you this WORKS! When my youngest was 4 we were at the state fair and we were walking from the Ferris Wheel to the rest rooms. She was RIGHT behind me as we walked into the bathrooms and I went in the stall first to make sure it was "clean" and put down the seat protector etc. THAT quickly she was gone. I turned around to have her and my other daughter come in and one was there but she was not! I thought she was out by the sinks or on the other side of the bathrooms but she was not. I panicked because esp at a midway of a state fair NOT appealing!! The security asked me the SAME thing, what was she wearing and in my panicked state I could NOT remember!!!

Thank goodness I had my camera and was able to flip through and find a pic. EVEN if you DID remember in a panic you may forget!!!

So this is a GREAT idea and it DOES work! Luckily we got her back but it took us an HOUR! And I was besides myself!!! TG she was safe but that was about the worst hour of my life!!!

OK, I'm going to share something else I do that may seem a little over-the-top, but (again) if I have it I will never need it!

Using a graphics program on my computer, I create a little "baseball card"-type profile of my children -- a small, close-cropped headshot, height, weight, hair and eye color, birthdate. All four kids fit on a half-page that I fold up in my wallet.

With four kids, I've always worried that in a lost-child or medical emergency, I'll panic and forget how much my lightweight DD8 weighs, or how tall DS5 has gotten.

I really only carry this on trips, but I also figure it's a way to ID that the kids are mine (not so important now as when they were pre-verbal). DH carries one also on trips.

You could also do the same by writing the info on the back of wallet-size school pictures.

We also use the buddy system -- DH and I are buddies with the younger two, and my older two are buddies.

I did the "dog tag" thing for DS a couple years ago. We also discussed who he should run to if he's lost. I tried explaining the concept of a CM to him, but at 3 1/2 yrs at the time, he just didn't get it. I settled for telling him to find a mom with a stroller. He was too old to find the baby care center or lost kids area, didn't know how to get to Main St, Guest Services etc and couldn't understand what a CM was even after pointing them out to him. But a mom with a stroller (just like his own mom) he got that!:thumbsup2

As a side note, I made a second dog tag for my son's favorite stuffed animal that goes everywhere with him. It read:

Anmal Mead
I'm Priceless
My phone#

Works great!:thumbsup2

When I took my 10yr old girl I told her if we got separated to immediately tell a CM. She's now 12 so I just tell her to meet at Guest Services at the front of either park if we get split up.

The past few months we've been taking a friends 9yr old girl. Along with instructing her to find the nearest CM, I've also put a note in her pocket with our cell phone, hotel and other information.

So far we've never gotten separated. I worry about the 9yr old as she tends to wander looking at things with extreme curiosity!! But she's smart, can find her own way when needed and follows instructions perfectly.

this tips are really good. Last week my dd 7 went on her first trip with day care! And I was so nervous we gave her a little note with our numbers! So now for our disney trip I need a better plan! haha

Looking online I saw this bracelet id's they look nice you can pick pink or blue. But I guess the dog tag is cheaper? how much are those? sorry no pets here.

thank you

I believe I paid about $5-6 for the dog tags at PetSmart.

while looking online find this "spot me ID" I think they are too cute!!! they also have lanyards and temporary tattoos, you can pick the "theme" amusement park, zoo, water park, etc. A lot better than just giving my girls a piece of paper with my name! :goodvibes

I purchased a dog tag at WalMart (they have machines that etch the info on them) and they also have the necklaces to hang it on. My daughter wears this whenever we go on trips; it has her full name, my cell # and our city/state on it. She knows to look for a CM if she ever gets lost and it's reassuring to BOTH of us. :goodvibes

We took one of her friends with us to DL a couple weeks ago and had one made for her as well. :thumbsup2

I did the same for my kids. For my daugter, I got a pink heart and for my son, I got a Buzz and Woody tag! They just came out this week.

The machine is in the front of the store in the customer service area. I stared at the machine last week, but decided against making a tag and this morning changed my mind and was shocked to see the Buzz & Woody design. It said it was there for a limited time. It's so cute. They had a Mickey one too, but it was in the shape of a dog bone.

we dress our girls in matching shirts. that way we are looking for 1 color of shirt in the crowd. hadnt thought to far ahead on my son. prbably do the same. although they wont be wearing pink! green, blue, white and yellow!

I like all of these ideas. One thing about notes in pockets is that they forget about them and they can get wet and ruined.

I heard about writing name and cell number on tape and placing on the INSIDE of their shirt near their shoulders. I believe law enforcement know to look inside the shirt for this information.

Placing it on the inside means that the pervert cannot read your child's name and use it. As in "Hi, Timmy and Julie, your mom asked me to help you guys find Mickey Mouse." or some other equally safe sounding statement.
