Safety Restraints on Attractions

I was thinking of the one at a Six Flags park (Texas?), but I think you're right...they were on the outside of a loop (it was the feet dangling type of ride), rather than inside like Screamin'.

Oh, I won't argue it's not possible.

Still, in traditional trains, many coasters are moving to this (top pic from Twisted Colossus)...

Then of course there is this, which does make you feel like you will fall out on every turn (yes, that man is hanging over the side of the track)...

Those new style cars do look a lot more comfortable than the over the should restraints!

I've been on a coaster locally, similar to RnRC, that switched from shoulder restraints to a newer lap restraints and it was a new and day difference on comfort and fun. The older shoulder restraints were infamous for boxing ears and drawing blood from earrings.

My impression is that all these roller coasters have brakes that stop a train in place. I think I've even seen a picture of Screamin' with a car in the top of the loop.

They'd have to have the brakes that apply in a stop as a safety option - it's not going to be very safe if they just rolled until they stopped. We have been stopped on Space Mt and it's a hard stop right in place.

Nope. Roller coaster trains do not have breaks. Brakes are located on the track.

The first time I rode RnRC I had an ear cuff on - it almost became and earring started it got completely bent and hammered into my ear. Someone else had to take it off me I couldn’t get it. Ouch!

I haven't seen any with this type of car yet, but that sounds like quite an improvement!

I see someone posted a picture for you. The new Joker ride at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Nor Cal has that kind of restraint. However, that coaster has twists instead of an all out loop. I think I feel pretty safe in the over the shoulder system on a big loop like Screamin had.

We always have to remove my sons hearing aids as well. Banged his ears up pretty bad the first time on Screamin!

My issue with the over the shoulder restraints is that I bump by head/ears against them during the ride if I don't keep my head firmly back on the rest. Ouch!

I have the same issue, and have ridden rides that give me a headache from bumping my head. This doesn't happen to me on California Screamin'. This is the smoothest loop coaster I've been on.
