This will be my first fall/winter training for a rD event, and I'm looking for tips on the best gear for running when it is somewhat dark out. I'm avoiding running when it's totally dark out as much as possible, but at times I end up running right before sunrise or just after sunset.

I have a lot of neon gear with reflective tape. I'm fairly knowledgable on ANSI standards for reflective gear, so basically what I'm looking for is info on other types of good gear that are worth the money. For example, does anyone have recommendations for good flashlights, hat clip lights, other misc gear to both make it easier for me to see and be seen?

I just got a new toy last week: a Black Diamond Sprinter rechargeable headlamp.

I use it for twilight runs not so much to see, but to be seen. It is GREAT! It has a blinking red 'taillight' and the front lamp is very bright. Vehicles seem to slow down because they are not sure what you are. I wear it over my hat. I can't even tell it's there for the first hour or so. After that, I can start to feel it (may be my imagination).

Just Google it and you will see it ranks #1 in most reviews of rechargeable headlamps. Don't be fooled by the pictures, its smaller than it looks. Look for the youTube video of the guy reviewing it to get a feel for the size. I paid around $70 (free REI dividends!) and it is well worth it.

The only negative is the optional top strap is a little fiddly, but I haven't needed it.

I saw a set of Brooks convertible running gloves/mittens that had an LED on one of the hands. It had three setting (two pulse and one steady). I am really thinking about those.
