I will be traveling with 3 couples and four grandkids. I am the only single. I would like to do a couple of excursions, like Mr. Sancho's or Paradise Beach, in Cozumel. It is cheaper to just take a taxi, than pay to go through Disney. But is it safe to travel alone? Has anyone done this? Both get good reviews.

It depends. I'm sure there will be taxis at the port if you want to take one to one of these places. Personally, I wouldn't travel alone in a taxi. However, going through Disney will guarantee protection getting back to the ship incase you are late, transportation, and possibly food (if included in the excursion). We always book through Disney for those reasons.

Yes, it's probably safe to travel alone in a taxi in Cozumel. I've been to Paradise Beach. We liked it quite a bit, it's very nice.

Occasionally solo female traveler here. I have taxi'd around Cozumel solo quite a bit and never felt concerned, including to Nachi Cocum. It's just one long strip that runs up that coast of the island (with the cruise piers, downtown San Miguel, and the beach clubs mostly a bit further south). The taxis are constantly running up and down what is essentially that main strip. The beach clubs will call you one when you're ready to leave, as well.

I've never paid for a cruise ship excursion.

I don't know about the safety as I have not been to those ports ever. I'll go into the paranoia a bit, but common sense says to make sure you let someone know your plans that morning where you will be and what time you expect to be back, or when they should expect to hear from you. It is important that you check in when you say you will. If something were to happen, knowing what your plans were will help Disney and the Authorities. If you really want to be cautious, have someone keep a picture of what you are wearing that day so they would have the most recent photo to share. Also, be sure to check your navigator for who the ships agent is while in port. They are a good point of contact should you not be able to get to the ship.
