(I THINK!)

Can DVCers pool-hop to Swan/Dolphin pools? Just saw one of them on "Price is Right"...the KIDS were watching it, not me ...and they thought it looked cool with the waterfall. We'll be staying at BWV.

Thanks. :D

I have "heard" we cannot because it is not owned by Disney, like the hotels in the downtown Disney area. I could be wrong though.

No, DVC members cannot hop to any of the Swan/Dolphin pools. The reason is as Peterd says - these hotels are neither owned nor operated by Disney.

Mare....just had to smile at your thread title!

I didn't think non-controversial and pool-hopping could exist in the same phrase! :)

non-controversial ??? I agree with GRANNY.. Why not talk about religion, politics, 8 in a studio or RICHYAMS view of the non-OKW resorts !! HA !!

these hotels are neither owned nor operated by Disney.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I always had heard that those buildings were physically owned by Disney, but the operations had a long term lease arrangement with (Hyatt, Hilton ???) to operate them.

I can't imagine Disney allowing another company to physically own the property right there in the middle of WDW.

The offical guide book says the Swan and Dolphin are OPERATED by Westin and Sheraton respectively.

You are correct in saying that Disney owns the "property" or land beneath the hotels, but Disney does not own the hotels. (IIRC, there is a long term lease for the land involved). The following is copied from a press release dated 5/28/02:

Although the hotels are on Walt Disney Co. (DIS) property, they are owned by Tishman Hotel Corp., a unit of New York-based Tishman Realty & Construction Co., Inc. (X.TMR), and managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. (HOT). They account for 2,267 of Orlando's 108,000 hotel rooms.

Here is the link to the entire article (which was about the recent employee strike at the Swan & Dolphin):

Westin and Sheraton are now both owned by the Starwood Hotel Group. I believe they are now operating them as "one" hotel with two wings (a la Yacht & Beach).

Disney does own the land and it was Disney who arranged for the design of the buildings. I'm not sure of all the technicalities. I believe Disney also owns all the land where the DD hotels are and also the Crossroads Marketplace....I think they even own the land in the Little Lake Bryan area.

Owned by Tishman in NY?? Wow this is the first company my DH started working for when he went into the "construction/laborer" field. I can't wait to tell him.

Ahh! Then the question now becomes...whose WATER is in the pool at the resort owned by Tishman Hotel Corp, managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., built on Disney property? I think if it's Disney's, then we should be able to pool hop.

JMHO. ;)

LOL, MaryAnn:D Me thinketh that thou hast now proven Granny's initial assertion:

I didn't think non-controversial and pool-hopping could exist in the same phrase!

MaryAnnDVC,

That is so funny you asked, because my daughter saw that as well and said she wanted to swim there the next time we go!

MaryAnn, I love your reasoning! That is so funny, I was LOL reading it! Can you imagine DVC members trying to pool hop to S/D and giving the lifeguard or whomever checks for pool admittance your reasoning as to why they should be allowed to pool hop there! LOL! :jester:

Last September, I did a pool hopping day with a few people. We hit SAB and then went over to Swan/Dolphin. No one asked to see ID or even questioned us being there. The kid tossed me towels for all 8 of us without second thought. I did not think at the time that I was not allowed there. But maybe at busier times they would check.

Heard Tishman has a 99 year lease on the land with Disney. I am sure Disney has clauses in the lease covering what can and cannot be operated on the property and hotel service standards.
