safe effective insect repellent

My Bf told me about the Listerine and when DS and I went to Target I was going to get a big bottle. But he thought I was silly to spend 2xs the $ for Listerine brand and checked the ingred. list on the Target brand, which was the very same. Wellllllll I got the Target brand, and while it kinda works, it isn't great after an hour or 2. I guess I will try the Listerine and see if it does the job.
I am soooo tired of being the personal buffet line for the local bugs!

our Walmart has Burt's Bees repellent in the poisons, repellents, mouse trap section (not the seasonal mosquito repellent section in the garden section, the section over in the detergents). It's herbal.

My drugstore carries a lemon/eucaplyptus repellent --using it I have never been stung, and it doesn't give me the migraine that citronella or deet products does

Please DO NOT use the lemon eucalyptus oil on children under the age of 3. My SIL gave us some last week and tried to convince us it's fine for our 17 month old DD. All of the research I've done on it says not to use it on children under 3 (including the CDC).

One site (don't recall which one) stated: "Be cautious in using lemon eucalyptus oil with very young children, since it can cause skin irritations if too much oil is applied. In addition, some children have reported that the vapors from lemon eucalyptus oil can cause dizziness or nausea. Avoid getting lemon eucalyptus oil into cuts and sores as well."

Apparently, it can also be poisonous if ingested or if too much is applied so be careful if you're using it on older children.
