Safe, economical air purifier?

Can anyone recommend an air purifier? We had one years ago with a glass plate that I think did something with ions or ozone. It made my house smell SO clean, everyone would comment on it. It broke and I had forgotten about it until visiting my sister who has a similar machine from Eden; it make their whole home smell great and you don't even hear it running.

When I researched the Eden, someone commented on Amazon that it was unsafe due to the ozone levels. So, I ordered two smaller machines--different brand, one with an ionizer, one without. I have them at two ends of the house and we can't smell a difference. One is kind of loud, even on quiet; the other is really quiet.

We have dogs and live in the country so I would like something to give me that fresh smell again. The Eden is $300, which I would pay because I know it works and is quiet...but is it safe???? Can anyone make a recommendation???

I would like to know also my dd has very bad allergies and i was just told to get one of these to help her
