Hello DISers!
My family and I are travelling with friends of ours in February and they are bringing their children to WDW for the first time. My family have visited more times than we can count, and we are SUPER excited to be bringing newbies!! While I know I am a WDW expert, I am definitely not one when it comes to food allergies. My friend’s two children (ages 11 and 9) have life threatening peanut allergies. Their reactions are so severe that any type of cross contamination must be avoided. I was hoping that maybe someone with experience in this area could recommend some “safe” Disney snacks they could get in the parks. We’ve gone out to eat with this family before, and it can be quite an ordeal to try and find out what the kids can have. Sometimes they feel really embarrassed and end up not wanting to get anything so they don’t have to ask. If I could find out ahead of time what might be available for them, maybe we can avoid that kind of situation.

We are familiar with what to do at Disney restaurants, but what about snacks? What is completely peanut free without possible cross contamination?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Any made there snacks, like the apples, the pretzels, etc would be out

The pre packaged snacks might be safer. Hopefully folks that live this will chime in

I hope everyone has an awesome time! They should never feel bad, they are their child's advocate. Good for them

plan on spending time looking at allergy book when buying snacks. if cross contamination is out I am guessing most snacks are going to be out. know you didn't ask but is allergy noted on any ressies? I remember one trip where a grandson was along and he could not have bread at most Table Serves because of cross contamination. because of changes in making of products what is safe today might not be tomorrow. so it will most likely be a day by day thing. also be prepared for peanuts and peanut butter any place in park as people can bring food in and they sell nuts at carts in parks. same grandson had reaction while in line for attraction way after eating so it was not from eating. never saw any peanuts/butter but he got into some. make sure they carry their epi pens at all times

Yes, I’ve made notes on all our reservations about the peanut allergy. My friend is very anxious about waiting in the lines because you’re right - anyone could have peanuts or peanut butter and if they touch something and then their kids touch it they could have an anaphylactic reaction. They carry several epi pens. I’m also thinking of getting the kids gloves to wear in line. Thankfully it will be February so wearing gloves won’t look awkward!

Because most of the non-pre-packaged snacks are made in open kitchens, I think just about anything from any bakery or candy shop (confectionery/Goofy's/circus tent/etc) will be out. I would not even bring them in. Peanut dust could be floating anywhere and you never know who touched what. Good thing about that is, they won't see snacks they can't have.

Definitely don't bring them to 'Ohana, either. Not because of the food but because of the peanut sauce, which will be all over the place.

My friend's daughter has a very severe peanut allergy, and the friend said that Disney World was one place where she felt safe letting her daughter eat, because of how stringent the Disney staff was about allergies.

They have stayed CL at Yacht Club on several occasions, and the food services staff left boxes of safe snacks or foods for her daughter to enjoy.

Also, they went to the MK fireworks dessert party one night, and the daughter got a special selection of desserts.

Packaged allergy-free snacks are sold or provided in many places. Those would be the safest option.

The parents should never be made to feel bad about asking, but they need to be vigilant when asking about cross-contamination, so they are going to need to ask. There are some places that will be unable to handle cross contamination, and some restaurants that will be able to prepare their children's food in an allergen-free environment, but they won't know this unless they ask.

I wonder if the Dole Whip station (Aloha Isle) in Adventureland at MK would be okay for them...the only thing that could be iffy would be the pineapple upside down cake depending on where it had been made. Pretty much the only things they sell are Pineapple Dole whip, pineapple spears, pineapple juice, water and coffee.

So kind of you to be so helpful. Our youngest is considered anaphylactic due to his component test but has never had a reaction. There are soooo many variables when deciding what is safe. We allow Mickey Bars but not everyone does. We will do soft serve ice cream but not dipped. Many of the deserts are not safe. All restaurants can make a safe meals and most counter Service is safe for peanut. Enjoy Life cookies are available most places. If sweets are important, caring something safe with you is a good idea.

Avoid Zuri's Sweet Shop in AK whatever you do. We literally walked in one door and out the other. In less than 30 seconds I had a severe reaction to peanuts.
The chefs have been awesome with me at every restaurant. The quick service are a bit trickier, but they still work great with you. It just takes more time in my experience.
