My cousin, who I grew up with and am very close to, called me tonight from Maine. Her DH was just diagnosed with advanced large cell carcinoma of the lung. He had a brief neurological episode, lasting less than five minutes. They thought perhaps he had a small stroke and he went to the ER. After at CT Scan, etc. they determined that he had a large primary lung tumor with mets to the brain and bone. His lymph nodes are heavily involved as well. Without chemo and radiation he will have less than 3 months. He is opting for treatment to prolong his life. He is only 52 and quit smoking 15 years ago.
If it wasn't for bad luck, he would have no luck at all. In his younger days he sustained terrible injuries from a motorcycle accident, in which he mostly recovered. He loved flying and had his own single engine airplane which he flew for years. He then developed diabetes and had to give up his pilots license. He was able however to build his own ultralight and fly it without his pilots license. About 8 years ago it stalled (lost lift) 1500 ft above the run way and corkscrewed into the tarmac. He broke every bone in his body below his waist, including parts of his spine, his pelvis in several places, both femurs, his knees were shattered by the rods that he had in his lower legs from the motorcycle accident and were both bent on impact. He NEVER lost consciousness. He pretty much recovered from that injury, at least enough to become mobile again and now he is facing this. Very sad. Your prayers are welcomed for whatever God feels is best for this family.
