Sabotage de la Diet - *9/10* Amish Grace

Really enjoying your TR, love the HP pictures and I totally agree with you on the branding. I am a huge Disney lover, but I miss the theming! I want resort specific merchandise. I want land specific merchandise and signage and I don't want to see princess crap in Animal Kingdom anymore than I want to see bugs in the castle.

You did make me want to try a Butterbeer though!

Now remember, had we done Harry at the start of our vacation rather than the end, I’m sure we could have survived a full-day at IOA. So, no disrespect is intended against Universal or anything. With that in mind, the second we pulled back onto Disney property, the SO grabbed my hand and whispered “thank God.” Did I raise him right or what?

This will be me to DH on July 18th when our limo picks us up at Portofino Bay and whisks us over to the Polynesian.

Don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to WWoHP, but it just isn't Disney. However, I will endure because Disney will be the sweet reward to the 10 year anniversary vacation!

I am loving your report. :)

The last time we went to Universal/IOA a year ago in April the only memorable part for me was the Spiderman ride! I am glad you enjoyed it! I am a huge Spiderman fan so I absolutely loved it! I also missed out on the themed queue due to the seperate Universal Fast Pass line. Just gives me something to go back for!

The last time I was at Universal, IOA hadn't even been built.

Enjoying your TR immensely. Love the GG references. I've giggled more than a few times.

DH is super excited about "Harry Potter Land". I'm having a hard time pulling myself away from WDW.

But since this started as a dining report... have you ever visited Shula's steak house?

But like everything in Universal, they like to make throw water at you.

Ain't that the truth! The Universal people love water. By the end of my first trip to IOA, I learned to be on the lookout for water even when I least expected it! Just thinking about makes me giggle. My sister and I were screaming "Come on! More water?!?!"

BTW, my sister lives in Brooklyn and I told her your F train joke, and she laughed. She braves the F train every day to get to work. Poor thing.

Great report, and I hope it's not over yet!

Another great update. You've made me want to visit Universal very much which is a feat.

The culmination of 6 OCDiser days (I can’t bring myself to say commando, so OCDiser it is)

THANK YOU. I can't say that either. To me, commando refers to when I don't wear any underwear. Right? How did this become a Disney term?

With that in mind, the second we pulled back onto Disney property, the SO grabbed my hand and whispered “thank God.” Did I raise him right or what?

This made me literally laugh out loud. Adorable. Does he have a brother? I need to find someone like this.

I was told by the wonderful Lia (__disneygirl) that I absolutely HAD to check out your TR. And after reading through the whole thing, I've gotta say, it doesn't disappoint. :)

Your writing is amazing, and hilarious, and I just want it to go on forever and ever.

I think you may have even convinced me, a girl who is the opposite of a Potter fan and who spent majority of her only trip to Universal rolling her eyes at the awfulness, that I NEED to go and check out Harry Potter World (or whatever it's actually called). I mean, I only read the first Potter book and haven't seen any of the movies in their entirity (though I do like the Potter Puppet Pals- They make me laugh), but I was still captivated by your writing. And I think the bottle of squished pumpkin juice, or whatever it's called, is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

And although I will never admit this to anyone else, getting my own wand would be pretty rad.

Ok. Now let's just forget that I said all of that, so that I can go back to being my anti-Potter self. Harry Potter? Totally lame. Why in the world would I ever want to go there? ;)

Anyway, onto other things, like the fact that you got to spend time in the one place I actually enjoyed in Universal, the Dr. Seuss bookstore!!! I love me some Seuss. He's one of my heroes. And I think I spent over an hour in there reading all of my favorites. If I Ran the Zoo was one of my favorite books as a kid. And who doesn't love Oh, the Places You'll Go? It's one of the greatest books ever. So yeah, that bookstore was pretty much a dream come true.

I'm going to stop now before my comment gets any longer, but I LOVE YOUR TR. A lot. And I can't wait to read more. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much for the pictures and descriptions of WWoHP. My daughter is a huge Potterhead (as am I). She read all of the books before she was 11! (In 2 months time, mind you)

We are planning on going, but perhaps next summer--I am worried about the first year being wild. Then again, there will be a lot of people there next summer after the release of the last movie, as well.

Wonderful review and report! I really enjoyed it. Thank you!

Oh, thedisneymom it's my pleasure!

OCDiser :rotfl2:

What a great way to start a sunny day in London reading your TR :goodvibes

I wish I were having a sunny day in London. But I guess I'm there kinda sorta? Thanks for reading Linda!

Oh, that is huge!! I have to make sure that first visit is a good one so the not-so-much Potter fans in my house enjoy it as much as the die-hard fans do.

I'm getting so nervous now with all of this praise I'm giving it! But I keep asking myself, was it truly worth it, am I hyperbolizing (new word)? No, I stand by my Dumbledore. I hope that your visit is fabulous.

Love it! If you don't mind, I'm going to adopt OCDiser. Not so much a fan of commando, either.;)

:rotfl: I'm glad you like it! It still seems a little awkward to me, like we're obsessive compulsive dissers. But I guess I do a lot of dissing during my reviews/reports, so it's all in the family.

Love Seuss. Takes me back to reading them to my kids (sniff, sniff, they grow up so fast . . .)

That store is definitely another reason to head on over to Islands of Contrition/Adventure. The Seuss store is a loving tribute to Mr. Geissel's work.

It's NEVER too hot to eat sticky cinnamon rolls!:cloud9:

You and the SO would get along swimmingly. :upsidedow

:rotfl:I can't tell you how often I do this! I really need to pay better attention. . . anyway, how dare she sniff at you!!

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I'll be pulling toys off the shelves and showing them to strangers without ever turning around. They must think I'm extra-bonkers. You know what I did to the lady who sniffed at me? I sniffed right back!

Oh, Billy, please get some water. I'm heading to the fountain right now, this report is making me parched. Can't believe you had any energy left after Potter land!

All the reports are making me parched. This is like Laurence of Arabia. It just doesn't end! But I see some reports on here that started back in November of '09. So, there's hope for us after all... and speaking of which:

Oh .... here you are! You moved and apparently I can't read the BIG letters at the top of the dining thread! Thanks so much for the great photos! I can't wait to take my boys now. Don't you know my hubby is going to be thrilled :rotfl:

Hope for us/Lori, you just get your husband a pint of Hogs Head's brew, sit him down at the bar, and go about your merry way. Just remember to pick him up before you leave for the day.

It really was an incredible experience, guys. But I just CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH the need for everybody that plans to go to get there as early as humanly possible. Billy and I got there at 8 thinking the park opened at 9, but the queue to get into the Wizarding World was already almost through Jurassic Park.

But I'm telling you...as a mega major HP fan, nothing could have prepared me for how immersive and well done the whole thing is. :)

Well look what the puppers dragged in. :goodvibes I see you're using a recent photo for your avatar, my compliments to the photographer.

Look at what I hath wrought people, the boy not only understands the Disney bug, but he's on a Disney forum! :teacher: The educamacation continues... :cloud9:

Really enjoying your TR, love the HP pictures and I totally agree with you on the branding. I am a huge Disney lover, but I miss the theming! I want resort specific merchandise. I want land specific merchandise and signage and I don't want to see princess crap in Animal Kingdom anymore than I want to see bugs in the castle.

No more princess crap in the Animal Kingdom! No more bugs in the Castle! I'm with you, Lulu. Let's toast over a Butterbeer. :flower3:

This will be me to DH on July 18th when our limo picks us up at Portofino Bay and whisks us over to the Polynesian.

Don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to WWoHP, but it just isn't Disney. However, I will endure because Disney will be the sweet reward to the 10 year anniversary vacation!

I am loving your report. :)

I won't lie and say I didn't feel the same way. I felt a great sense of calm when we arrived back on property. I guess it's just what I'm used to.. I've often considered Walt Disney World to be the last borough of New York City. It's only two and a half hours away, which is shorter than a traffic-filled jaunt to Long Island!

Spiderman is definitely a showstopper. I keep using the word definitely. And I want to make sure the SO sees the queue next time, too. We both have reasons to return! Thanks for reading Caitlin.

I really should throw more GG references into the mix, and maybe some Designing Women. Brilliant shows the both of them.

I have not visited Shula's, but I've been meaning to go to the one here at home. I'm not much of a steakhouse fan, but I know if I'm going to spend the money I may as well aim for the best. Thanks for reading!

HOLLAAA!!!!! I'm here too!!! Enjoying every bit!!! :thumbsup2

YAY! :worship: I love all three pages I've read of your dining report and am tickled pink to have you read my run on sentences!

Another great update. You've made me want to visit Universal very much which is a feat.

If you all hate Harry Potter, will I have to give you a refund? :confused3

THANK YOU. I can't say that either. To me, commando refers to when I don't wear any underwear. Right? How did this become a Disney term?

I really don't know, but we've all seen it on discussion boards forever, right? I know the Unofficial Guide uses them, maybe it originated there?

This made me literally laugh out loud. Adorable. Does he have a brother? I need to find someone like this.

:rotfl2: He has a half-brother, so I guess there's a 50/50 chance?

I was told by the wonderful Lia (__disneygirl) that I absolutely HAD to check out your TR. And after reading through the whole thing, I've gotta say, it doesn't disappoint. :)

Your writing is amazing, and hilarious, and I just want it to go on forever and ever.

Thank you for checking it out (and thank you Lia for spreading the word).

I LOVE the Potter Pals. "Angst...angst...angst..." I reiterate, I still roll my eyes at the awfulness of Universal, but I adored the Wizarding World. So, I really can't guarantee that you'll love the place. But think about it, even if you don't like it one bit, you can come on the boards and rant your heart out!

Anyway, onto other things, like the fact that you got to spend time in the one place I actually enjoyed in Universal, the Dr. Seuss bookstore!!! I love me some Seuss. He's one of my heroes. Yes, I can't stress enough how perfect that bookstore is, there isn't one thing out of place. Oh the places you'll go, indeed... and any Seuss fan should take time out of their commando days to stop in. Underwear optional.

Thanks Amanda! I don't know how to gauge what the crowds will be like, but at least for the next year or so, I'd stay away. Just remember that if you do go next summer, get to IOA at least two hours before park opening. Off-site or on. The earlier you go, the lower the sun will be in the sky... and despite the humidity, the waits will be much more tolerable. Because even by 11 am, it's beyond brutal.

Ain't that the truth! The Universal people love water. By the end of my first trip to IOA, I learned to be on the lookout for water even when I least expected it! Just thinking about makes me giggle. My sister and I were screaming "Come on! More water?!?!"

Great report, and I hope it's not over yet!

Thanks Valree! I know, those Universal people even throw water at you when it's raining. It must be a tic of some kind. And thanks for showing the TR to your sister. F-train love, y'all. :)

Your report continues to be awesome! I'd thought you'd dropped off the boards, then I realized you moved, then the link was broken, then I found you and now I'm here and all caught up. Phew! Great writing!

Your HP report was fantastic. I had suggested to my children, actually gave them the choice of going to Universal this year and they said, "We're not interested. Why would we want to go there? It's NOT Disney World." So, your report might have to be required reading because it really seems amazing. Having just watched Goblet of Fire, I am amazed by the attention to detail.

Love the new signature banner, too! AND a big DIS welcome to SO, just noticed that he checked in!

I will be so sad when this trip is over.

PS: I noticed that you mentioned DL earlier...do you happen to have a DL trip report or any DL restaurant reviews/recommendations?

I'm glad you were able to find me (thanks for letting me know the link was broken! :thumbsup2), and I'm glad you're enjoying the continuing adventures of Mouse 1 and Mouse 2. As to Harry Potter, if you're looking for attention to detail, look no further than the Wizarding World.

Do you think there's too much sparkle to the signature banner? I figured since I'll never be able to afford a stay at the Bay Lake Tower Condos, I might as well start a never-ending countdown.

I'll take that toast! You will be happy to know that I the Disney lover and former CM have talked my brother into taking his kids to see HP at Universal next year! My nephew is 7 and just started reading the books, he is so into it and he is so excited to go now, I showed him a couple pics.

Sparkle, schmarkle, there's never too much! It looks terrific and no, I'm not blinded by it. It's very MGM, or, um, DHS.

I did notice the never-ending countdown, it's hilarious. I've rented DVC points and I highly recommend that...all the benefits of ownership without the maintenance fees.

Hi Billy :wave2: Lia linked your TR in hers and I am so glad she did. I love your report! You have a great writing style. :goodvibes

Nice update of Harry Potter though the crowds sounded insane  The Butterbeer looks so delicious. How sweet was it?

*Clink* or whatever sound two plastic steins make. *clunk*

And I guess if a former CM and Disney lover can go to WWoHP, anyone can. It will be fabulous to see it with your nephew. Make sure you go to Ollivander's first!

You can rent DVC points? Hmm. It all sound so confusing, but I'm sure with assistance from fellow DISers, it could possibly be a possible possibility. The points system sounds like Weight Watchers. A fun way of really doing dreadful things... like exercise or racking up credit card debt. But I'm sure it's doable.

And yes, the banner is rather MGM isn't it?

Hi Billy :wave2: Lia linked your TR in hers and I am so glad she did. I love your report! You have a great writing style. :goodvibes

She did?! Oh, that's amazing! Maybe that's why I've had some more comments as of late. Thank you so much for comin' on over. And thanks to Lia for including a link in her report. :worship:

Oh, and the Butterbeer: I honestly don't think the "beer" part was overtly sweet, but the combination with the "foam" increased the sugar factor.

Scooting across the seat of the Mears shuttle van with four bags of Wizarding World of Harry Potter loot was more tiring than watching the annual Biggest Loser marathon finale. It took all my strength to drag them - weighted heavily with candy, quidditch supplies and such - to the last bump in the seat's faux-leather cushion, and then leap down to the little stepladder. I had already failed on this dismount FOUR TIMES before we returned to the French Quarter. You see, we were one of the last stops, after a few drop offs at Saratoga Springs and other assorted DVC plantations. I always managed to leap to the curb to let the other passengers exit before the driver had brought out the stepladder. But now, I was prepared... and felt like Gloria Swanson coming down the staircase in Sunset Boulevard. If any of that made sense to you, then maybe you'll get a sense of just how out of it I was.

canopy.jpg

But again, I didn't know how out of it I was. This was now my 14th wind, brought on mostly by the elation of again setting foot on Reedy Creek property. I felt like such a turncoat with my Daniel Radcliffe shopping bags gleaming in the overcast sunlight streaming through the French Quarter arrival canopy. Was Mickey Mouse hanging his head in shame for my delinquency? Was Minnie sentencing me to life without parole? I wanted to apologize to Grandmother Willow over at the now-defunct Pocahontas and her Forest Freaks, or Minister Frollo over at the midday Celebrate Your 180-day ADR of Le Cellier Castle Court fiesta (you know, he dances with the princesses... didn't anyone watch Hunchback of Notre Dame? Aurora, watch out!). I wanted to grab all of the posters who castigate anyone discussing Harry Potter over on the Theme Park Attractions and Strategies board and kneel before them, chanting "mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!"

And then it passed.

back.jpg

The brick lobby of the French Quarter blasted us with air conditioning like we had just boarded some Cajun Spaceship. How I do adore this lobby, it may be my second favorite after the Animal Kingdom Lodge. But then, I've never been to the Grand Floridian (remember, I shan't go until a: I win some sort of GF prize or b: I get married or sumpin'). The combination of green and benches and bricks and music (either piped in during the day, or live at night from the jazz club) is now heightened by one of my most favorite Disney films of all time, The Princess and the Frog. Underrated, right? ***SPOILER *** Aren't you glad Charlotte ended up being a nice girl in the end? I would have been sooo pissed had she gone all uptight. ***SPOILER END***

We noticed that things seemed relatively sedate in the Sassagoula Floatworks Factory and decided to go in and rest a spell.

sassgoula.jpg

Now this would have been a perfect day to order beignets. The place was practically empty. But, beignets didn't really sound good at the time, and you know I wanted to remedy the crunchy cookie from the French Bakery on not-Main Street U.S.A. over at Islands of Adventure, so I decided to go for a sugar cookie. No, a sugar cookie ice cream sandwich.

Have you seen them? The CM puts two giant scoops of vanilla ice cream on two large cookies. For what, 4 bucks? I don't remember it being pricey at all, but yikes, I highly recommend. Remember that I hadn't eaten anything that day save for the muffin and the magical sugar drinks. So I scarfed it down. Let me show you a picture of just how big this thing was:

cookieice.jpg

And yes, I scarfed it down. Nom nom nom. Who needs water? Oh, you'll notice the Harry Potter loot. Borderline obsessive? That's a definite yes. I haven't shopped that much at Disney since 2000. I feel like the SO just kind of watched me eat. I know that maybe it doesn't look like much in that picture but you know ice cream sandwich cookie things, right? They're known as a transportable food that you can hold with one hand. I couldn't hold this with four.

We walked back to our room along Rue d'Baga and dropped off our purchases. Linda the mouskekeeper left us an additional washcloth goose above the sink. Now we had three, so I collected them together on the shelf above the luggage stand:

gooses.jpg

I love crappy unlicensed characters so these gave me a lot of pleasure. You know the characters that appear on generic boxes of cereal? Rip offs of Tony the Tiger, Toucan Sam, etc.? I love them. They're kinda like the Isle of Misfit Toys. These were the gooses (I can't say geese) from the Isle of Misfit Toys. Don't misunderstand me, I know the Mousekekeeping is part of the Disney magic, but it feeds another part of my soul. Do any of you remember the original Carnotaur lady, Conniesaurus, from Chester and Hester's over at Dinoland U.S.A.? I loved her. My best friend and I once posed and hung out with her for something like 15 minutes while waiting for our FP to Primeval Whirl. She's no longer there, having been replaced with a very different looking incarnation. Not half as deliciously tacky. I think a lot of my love for unlicensed characters stems from my own inability to create much of anything involving crafts or drawing. Things are always askew, I can't cut anything with scissors that looks mildly aligned, and you can spot my christmas presents from a mile away. Great disorderly bundles of paper and string. But back to the the TR, yes?

I flipped on the TV to see what the weather held in store, but got pissed at Kira or whatever her name is telling me how cute some Winnie-The-Pooh plush is over at the Magic Kingdom. Instead of flipping through to find the Weather Channel, I checked my phone. Clear skies. The SO wanted to look at all of the stuff we'd purchased that day and upload some photos to Facebook, but I insisted that we go to Downtown Disney before it got too crowded. I think it was nearing dusk now, so he obliged and off we went. The gooses watched deliriously from above. And the flowers still looked like they'd just arrived from the florist. What flowers? Remember, this trip report first started off as a dining report, so the first few days are kinda a mystery. Once I complete this, I will go back and start over again. How's that for a cliffhanger?

:goodvibes

Loved your trip report, especially your description of the lady at Le Cellier squawking in your ear. I know that "enhanced" your dining experience! :lmao:

films of all time, The Princess and the Frog. Underrated, right? ***SPOILER *** Aren't you glad Charlotte ended up being a nice girl in the end? I would have been sooo pissed had she gone all uptight. ***SPOILER END***

YES! And I cried like a baby at the end. Poor Ray. And yes, I was a lone adult crying in a sea of toddlers. Wait, that in & of itself is reason enough to cry. Good movie though.

Woah - that ice cream cookie sandwich looks fabulous :cool1:

I am sure that your next post will contain some kind of post sugar rush crash in the middle of Downtown Disney :rolleyes1
