SAB Slide closed Jan3-Feb25...

From the DVC Vacation Magic...

...the main pool slide will be closed from January 3 until February 25, 2005, due to a painting project occurring in that area.

This is the second time I've scheduled a trip for Mardi Gras at
WDW and both times the slide is out of commision.

What's up with this???

Closing of the pool area would be disappointing to me too.

They have to refurb sometime. Surely they don't want to do it during prime swimming weather...say March-October. November and December are out due to busy holiday seasons. That pretty much leaves Jan and Feb...which are lower usage seasons and relatively poor swimming weather.

Sorry to those of you going in Jan-Feb, maybe you still have time to move to a resort with a slide? I think that the entire section over there will be closed for rehab - they are doing it in three phases and it looks like each section will be closed in turn.

And the reason why the slide was down two years ago was to rehab the slide itself. This rehab is for the pool.

im sorry to hear about the SAB slide being closed, it was just closed 1 1/2 to 2 years ago feb. we were staying at the WL at the time because the BC was booked, no points for that trip.

we are leaving Jan. 3 to go back home, so we will just miss the closing.

Yes it was closed a few years ago (President's week Feb. '03) because I was there. We will be there in Feb. '05 again only to have the slide closed again. We also were at the BWV during one of their February slide rehabs. I guess my timing is off for slides!!!

I agree with you. Two of our last three trips--including next Feb.--the slide has been out of commission.

We leave New Orleans every Feb--bring the kids to a family friendly environment instead of the trash that takes place around here--and to have the slide seemingly always being repaired at that time is starting to tick me off.

One of the reasons we bought BCV was SAB--and it was fun the one time we got to use it!

Oh well, just had to vent.

BTW, We will have a large contingency of people from New Orleans that week, Feb 5-12--hope to meet some of you folks there!!!!!!

It is surprsing that 2 out of the last 3 years during Presidents' week the SAB slide has been closed. Maybe it will be back open by that busy period. But I guess no one should count on it.

Unfortunately, the pool really needs work. Have you tried the sinking sands area lately?

They are not rehabbing the slide - they are rehabbing the pool that the slides goes into.

If you are a DVC, you will be able to pool hop to the BWV.
I will be at the BCV in November and i am glad my kids will at least get a chance to use the slide before they close down. I know that the little kids section of the pool will be close in Nov for refurbishing.

Where exactly did you read this? I have resisies for mid-January and just called Member Services. They claim that all work at SAB will be done in November and December.

It's in the section entitled "Front Desk" news.

From what I understand, various sections of the pool are being drained, and painted throughout the fall/early winter....

The pool section where the slide empties is closed through Janaury - Feb.

Hope that it will all be completed I have to call MS this week as well, and I'll ask if the info in the VM is correct...

Not according to MS it( OKW slide) isn't. I think I will call MS back and see if another CM has different information.
