Your ticker seems to think you've made your decision already... :upsidedow

ETA Ooops! Read that wrong. I'd stick with the Poly but if you want to try the GF, I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself!

Why the GF instead of the Poly? I guess it depends on what you want. I wasn't a fan of the Poly when we stayed last year. And, my kids loved the lobby of the GF so much they wanted to stay there for our upcoming trip.

IMO, the best things about the Poly were the Kona Cafe and proximity to the TTC. We didn't even know the monorail stopped in front of the GCH! We spent the entire week walking to the TTC and taking empty monorails and buses!

GF. It's got a wonderful atmosphere. Everything is light and airy. The service is excellent. The rooms are gorgeous. You'll definitely feel like you had a relaxing vacation after 10 days at the GF.

Not sure your thoughts on a split stay, but I think it might be fun. It would feel like two vacations in one. Plus, after 5 nights, you might look forward to something new.

I've never stayed at GF, but we thought Poly was GREAT.

Both resorts have their advantages, so you have to decide which ones are more important to you.

I think the biggest Poly advantages are:
1. Walk to Epcot monorail at TTC
2. Straight-on view of Wishes from the beach and pool
3. Early electric water pageant viewing.

As for theming: I think you'll find a split over which theme people prefer.

Have never stayed at the GF, never will -- have no desire -- the resort does nothing for us. We've stayed at the Poly a number of times and love everything about it. I'm sure whatever you choose you'll have a great time -- you'll be at Disney.

Staying at the GF in September, it is going to be amazing. Thanks for all the posts and information. This is a great thread. :cool1::banana::banana::dance3::yay:

Hi, I asked a similar question for almost same exact time Aug 6-14, but it was to Yacht club and we did switch. My reasoning: Poly looks dark and I want to feel light when I'm on vaca. I know they're just opinions, but there are many out there about the lack of cleanliness at Poly. No hot tubs at Poly, spa, or tennis. What kind of higher end hotel doesn't have these amenities?

And the pool at Yacht is way cooler and the rooms have been recently remodeled, too. Pictures on the godisney site are not up to date.

Here's what some of the people said about Yacht versus Poly

Maybe you'll switch to Yacht and I'll see you there.:goodvibes

For August weather, I'd stay at the Polynesian - it would add to the tropical theme! We loved the Poly with the tropical music, the pool with a view of the castle, the tiki torches at night, Spirit of Aloha. We really enjoyed our stay there. Ohana has a great character breakfast and a nice themed dinner. Love the lobby. Our Tahiti building room faced the castle and a quiet beach and the lagoon.

We are staying at the Grand Floridian next December just to do something different and because of the Christmas tree, gingerbread house, decorations, and holiday music (orchestra, piano player, local choirs).

The wonderful thing is both hotels are so close to each other. You can take the boat from the Grand to the Poly, and take the monorail from Poly to the Grand. You can certainly visit each resort regardless where you stay and that's what we did in 2009 and plan to do in 2010. And being on the monorail... we loved that. Fast to Magic Kingdom. Fast access to a wide variety of restaurants.

Since I like the Polynesian theme just a little more then the Grand Floridian I would say to keep your current reservation.

Hello Alex! Over many posts I have sung the praises of the Poly and highlighted The Grand Floridian's bum notes so I have copied & pasted my opinions below. PLEASE don't think that I take your post any less seriously or give it any less consideration than anyone else ... and if you have ANY further questions or concerns PLEASE reply or message me ... I'd be MORE than happy to help!!!

The Grand Floridian - For the longest time in my family's Disney career we stayed off property and then moved onto Disney property at the Caribbean Beach Resort and every time we'd take the Ferry to MK we'd look at the G.F. and wonder how great it must be to stay there. However, one year when we finally came into some money we decided to stay there and we were SOOOO disappointed! We felt the hotel to be very cold (Not temp wise) and snobbish ... at every other hotel all the cast members would smile and greet you and there was none of that in this hotel ... it was very uncomfortable and after only two days we transferred out to the Contemporary.

The Polynesian is, in my opinion, is THEE friendliest hotel we've ever stayed at! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the tropical theme, the ALOHAS, the Tiki torches, the beaches where you can stand and watch the M.K. fireworks ... I find this hotel to be the most appealing! Not to mention that they are home to my FAVORITE-IST dinner ever ...O'Hana! I honestly do not think you'd be disappointed with this hotel!

I hope this helps with your decision!!! If you have any questions or comments just let 'em fly!

I think either is a good choice, we've done the Poly 3 times, (my GC love Poly and wanted to stay here again) we are trying the GF this time. I had though of doing AKL but we have small ones with us and the bus ride can be tiring at times.

Got a great rate and it is a special celebration. :cool1:

We have stayed at both (but prefer the CR). Between the Poly and GF, I would choose the GF. The Poly rooms (while larger) are older, darker, and seem to be more run-down and not quite as clean. Both have pretty good service. While the pool at the Poly is entertaining and pretty, it is usually crowded and loud - especially in August. We enjoyed the pools at the GF more. Hope this helps.:goodvibes

After having stayed at both, GF wins for me. The Poly was nothing more than a moderate with large rooms. It was dirty, had poor housekeeping, no hot tubs, no tennis courts, half of the tiki torches didn't work. I love the theme and location, but for the price you're paying, you don't get what you pay for. Plus at night, the lobby is a madhouse with Ohana. Not in the least bit relaxing. The pool is great, though pool hoppers ruin that.

The GF made me feel like a VIP. They were very polite the entire time. Every time I saw someone working there, they literally would step aside and let me pass. It's all about details at the GF. They treat you conducive of the price you're paying.

We spent our Disneymoon at the Poly, and it was great. The resort is tropical and lush, the theming is great, the pool is great. However we probably won't stay there again. We are trying the GF in November (it's a surprise trip actually for DH's birthday!) and I'm so excited. I've read so many great things about GF, but the top notch service is what got me. There is 24 hour room service (great after those late park nights!), turndown service for the whole hotel, amazing fine dining, GF Cafe is great, character dining, proximity to MK-It's one monorail stop away! I would say go for the switch to GF. Good luck with your decision!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

I had this dilemma a couple of months ago. I’ve stayed at Poly and absolutely loved it but on our upcoming trip I decided to give GF a try. :goodvibes I like the idea of trying out different resorts and I’ve heard great things about GF.

We stayed at the GF once but enjoy the Polynesian better. It's more laid back and relaxing at the Polynesian. It feels so comfortable with the beautiful grounds andthe music playing throughout the resort. :goodvibes

I'm glad we tried the GF because it is beautiful. The rooms were nice and very comfortable beds but the Polynesian is more for us.

I don't know what your reason is for reconsidering, but I've been through this. I find you're always going to be happy with your first choice. Just remind yourself why you chose it in the first place.

Advantage Poly: We love MK and Epcot, and really liked being able to walk to the TTC from the Poly so we could monorail to Epcot faster!

Advantage GF: We visited here on our last trip, and found their counter service location and choices far superior to the Poly, if that's important to you.

Just remember that the GF is just a nice, short walk or very short monorail ride away from the Poly, so really you can stay at one and still easily make time to experience the other in your down time.
