I just got a message on my app regarding my return trip that says “circumstances beyond our control are creating disruptions to our scheduled service and a flight on which you are currently booked may be adversely affected”. Then it goes on to say that I can change my flight at no additional cost. I have been flying SW for 15 years and never got a message like this. Does this mean the flight will be cancelled? Would you rebook or take your chances? The flight I am currently booked for is the only non stop and the only one that gets in before 6:00pm . Ugh! WWYD?

I am sure the issues with the Boeing 737 max 8 are causing your issue. See what is available, I'd just call SW and let them help, but you might see what is available online first.

I think that is on everyone’s right now. It is on my return trip. I don’t know if it is on my flight down because I have an error message when I click on that and can’t see it at all. I called a month or so ago and they said my flight down is booked exactly as it should be but I don’t like that I have no way to see it at all - app or website or anything.
Anyway look and see if your flight is now sold out. Supposedly they show as sold out if they are planning to cancel.

Are you still able to book a seat in any category for that flight? If yes, don’t worry.
SW had to move flights around last week for travel from 6/8 to 8/5. If yours truly was canceled, you should have been notified last Sunday.

First thing to to arm yourself with all the information you can if you have to change you flight, which it seems like you have may done or know. Make a list of all SW flights between your airport and your destination even if it's a higher price. Also if you have any other near by airports find out those SW flight as well, for example if you were flying out of Boston look at PVD and/or MHT and possibly Bradley- again don't worry about the price if higher. If SW does have to change your flight you can save a lot of time by knowing what flights you want and if it is more convenient for you they may also let you change airports for the entire trip. It also makes it easier on the SW rep you talk to to have that info already. If the price is lower SW may even refund/credit via a travel bank so be sure to ask. If higher they should let you change at no cost to you.

Well I called SW. she said right now that is a blanket statement for scheduled flights from 6/8-6/29. If there were to be a change in my flight I would get an email directly from SW. she said that as of now my flight is fine. Hope this info helps others as well. My flight still shows that it is available and later last night it went down from the $126 that I paid to $104 so I got 2100 pts back

I would call them and request a full refund. Under the circumstances, it would only be decent customer service for them to allow that. Then you could use the money to book a flight with another airline (such as Jet Blue or Delta) that it isn't struggling with scheduling due to the Max 8.

Decent customer service is allowing anyone with a currently booked flight between those dates to change, free of change fees. People who aren't even affected by the Max 8 overreaction are being allowed to change. *That* is decent customer service.

I would disagree under certain circumstances. If the only non-stop flight all day was cancelled and I had to pick from flights that required connections that would be unacceptable. It could turn a 2-3 hour flight into a 6-7 hour ordeal. In that case SW wouldn't be doing me any favors by "allowing" me to pick another flight. If SW doesn't offer non-stop then I go with another airline who does.

I guess that works if your airport(s) have plenty of choices. Not so if you don't have a wide variety of airlines that fly non-stop to X destination and are reasonable in price.

Don't get me wrong I love non-stop and almost always choose that but you're going to find issues like you've presented in just normal air travel. In this case it's before you travel but in other cases such as weather, maintenance, crew reasons, etc you'll find out when you're at the airport and you may have your flight cancelled then.

She did offer me an opportunity to change my flight at no fee but i was perfectly happy with the flight I had, I had just called to find out what that message meant. I have a non stop and the best time of the day in my opinion

I have flights going and returning during that 6/8 thru 6/29 time period. If I haven't received any information (text or email) should I assume that everything is ok? My flight going down is totally sold out on the website, should I be worried?

I have received similar emails from SW about my trip to Florida in June. They sent both a "blanket statement" about the 737 MAX-8, and then another "update" email just about a week ago. I got a third email saying my outward bound flight has already been delayed by 10 minutes (from 6:40AM to 6:50AM).

It is all due to the 737 MAX-8 issues and with SW having so many planes now out of service, they're shifting everything around accordingly.

You might not be affected at all; you have to wait and see. They should be giving you notice well in advance of any changes so you can rearrange flight plans as necessary.

I also received a message about my flight on June 2nd. I am flying Nashville to LAX to go to Disneyland. My flight is now making a stop in San Antonio, but not plane swap. Just getting in an hour later. No big deal. I stuck with the same flight. The price did go down and I was refunded the point difference. I haven’t heard any changes about my return flight on the 16th.

Yes my understanding from the customer service rep was that if there was a change in your flight whether it be a cancellation or a delay you will get an email from SW

About how far in advance should I hear something? Leaving 6/18. I checked today to see if the flight number that I am on and is currently sold out is listed as a continuing flight from somewhere else. But the Flt number that I am supposed to have in June says it originates in Fort Myers/Pittsburgh/Denver/Phoenix - no where near Orlando or Houston.

Sold out in all categories or just wanna get away?

But you should have heard a couple weeks ago. It sounds like it’s just July & possibly early August being contacted right now.

All categories and it is only totally sold out flight on that day. So if I had the flight in June and it is totally sold out it could possibly be everyone else being shuffled to my flight since my flight is the first non stop after 12:00 noon

That would be my guess. But feel free to call. The CSR are very helpful
