So I saw that Universal did a Soft opening for AP holders at the beginning of the month and I saw that its not officially opening until June 10 but I'm wondering is it really open now? I've seen wait times on my app alot in the last week but my son is telling me that its really open for only a very short timeframe, can anyone give me more concrete information since I hate to argue with my teen over something I'm not sure of, lol.

Thanks

VelociCoaster is open for technical previews at this time. Similar to what Disney calls soft opening. Basically, the ride may or may not be operational through out the day. Many rides do this to try and work out the kinks and make sure that there are no problems. Hopefully if they have the attraction open and running close to full capacity, they can encounter issues now instead of after the official opening. Hagrid and Rise of the Resistance (DHS and Disneyland) should have done more of this to try and prevent the problems they both encountered after their official opening. So until June 10th, you probably would be able to ride VelociCoaster, but there is no guarantee that it will be running. I haven't heard of it having any real down time due to technical issues.

Does anyone know if Express Pass is valid on this ride, either now when it is open for soft opening, or after the official opening on June 10? Thank you!

No Express Pass for soft opens & highly unlikely at opening or for quite some time if it goes as usual with a new UO attraction ( e.g., Hagrid's has been open almost 2 years & still no EP.)

It seemed like it was open all days last week (May 9-15) and for a lot of each day. We rode it a handful of times with waits ranging from 30 to 60 minutes (vs. posted waits of 45 to 70). You know its open when the app gives you a wait time. The app flashed "ride now" on Friday morning, but the wait time was at least 45 to 70 at that point.

Yet it wasn't without issue. Besides halting for weather at least once, it abruptly shut down Friday afternoon with a 75 minute queue waiting and we bailed. Don't know if they restarted it again that day.

As far as logistics: No express pass, but they were running the single rider line as well as a "front" line. Right at loading, you had the option of instead of boarding moving to the "front" line to wait for a turn at riding in the front. That queue had usually around 6 to 8 pairs in it. I don't know if they cut off that line if it gets too full, as we did not partake of it. I know that at least twice last week they declared the single rider line "full" until it flushed out some.

I would check when you get there what time they are planning on closing that day. We were there the other day and they had a sign out, closing early. We found out they were closing the ride down at 8, and the park was open until 10. It was quite the "jog" to make it there in time. It was at a 30 min wait at about 7, but by the time we got off it was up to 70 and they shut down the line for no more people. I think once people realized it was closing early everyone ran there and the wait time doubled. Good Luck and hope you enjoy!
