If we purchased a resale with points coming available Oct 2009 can we borrow some of those points now and if so is there any type of cut off. We haven't closed yet but should be finalized next week and want to borrow points for January 2009.

Yes, you can borrow from the next year as long as your account is current.

There isn't a cut-off for borrowing points from your upcoming Use Year to use during the current Use Year.
You are within the window now to use borrowed points from your
October 2009 UY.

If you make a reservation for January 2009 but then needed to cancel for some reason the borrowed points from your 2009 Use Year will remain in your 2008 Use Year (which runs from Oct 1 2008 through September 30 2009) and you would have to use them by Sept. 30 2009 because borrowed (or banked) points must be used in the Use Year they were moved to. They can't be re-banked or placed back into the UY they were borrowed from.

Though you can do as stated above for borrowing, you cannot do any reservation until after you close on the contract and have been put into Disney's system. Even if that has already occurred and you can call to make a reservation now, be aware that it may be difficult to find what you want available in Jan 09 this close to the trip date.
