We are DVC members and the only 2BR units that we have stayed in were at OKW. We've stayed in studios at VWL and BWV, but I've never seen anything but a studio at these resorts and I've never seen any of the BCV or SSR rooms.

We currently have a ressie for Dec 2-10 for a 2BR at OKW. I know it's a longshot, but I'm going to call MS on Monday to see if I can waitlist for VWL. Then I started thinking that we might want to try another DVC resort if VWL isn't possible.

On this trip it will be me, DH, DD6, DS4, and my parents. My best friend may come for a few nights also, so she would get the sleep sofa.

So, question #1: Which resort would you choose and why? I'm not looking to start any debates - I'm sure I'd enjoy any of the resorts.
Question #2: Can you waitlist for more than one resort? For example, can I tell MS that I would like to waitlist for VWL and BWV and see if either one comes through?

Thanks for your help!

You may waitlist for as many resorts as you'd like, but your chances for success may be limited based on the numebr of points you have available and the way you use the waitlist. If you will depend on MS calling you to confirm availablilty only if your entire 8 nite stay becomes available, there will be minimal chance for success since all 8 nites would have to be cancelled at one time and you will have to respond within 24 hours to accept the reservation. (MS won't save cancelled dates towards the 8 nites, but will release those individual nights to those waitlisted auto-daily.)

If you use the automatic-daily waitlist, MS will confirm each day as it becomes available without contacting you. You can have them cancel each day of your OKW reservation as the other days are available.

Since this is a very busy time of the year at DVC resorts, the likelyhood that all 8 days will become available at one time is slim, but it still could happen.

Good luck!

Doc, thanks for explaining the waitlist process. I would definitely have to do the whole 8 nights, so I now understand that my chances are even slimmer than I thought! Luckily, it doesn't really matter as we all love OKW. So, if the waitlist doesn't work out - no biggie. It will be kind of fun to just let fate decide if we're going to end up at OKW or elsewhere!

it might be useful for you to check what the various resorts have in terms of sleeping arrangements in the second bedroom...
i know that some of them only have one queen bed and one sofabed in there...(while at OKW there are two queen beds)...
that might make a difference to you..

also, it's my understanding that the OKW 2 BR units are huge in comparison to the other DVC resorts.....

Good point. I think we would give my parents the king size bed, and DH and I will share the 2nd BR with the kids. So if there's a sleep sofa in the 2nd BR, the kids can have that!

OKW has the largest units, in terms of size, of all the DVC resorts. That isn't to say that the other resorts are small...they are certainly very amply-sized for a vacation condo. But OKW is huge.

As far as waitlisting...it's a gamble. I don't know if splitting your stay is an option, but if it is, consider wait-listing for 4 of your 8 days at VWL. Tell them you'd like to be at VWL for Dec. 2-6 or Dec. 6-10. If you don't want to move, however, then don't do this.

Thanks Disney Doll. I guess I'll have to find out if my family would want to do a split stay or not (I'm thinking that they won't want to).

OKW is our home resort and we love it, but it would be fun to try a new resort too. VWL would be my first choice, so maybe I'll just see if we can waitlist for VWL, BWV, or BCV.

VWL tend to be busy during the holiday season due to their wonderful holiday decorations. So, your best bet would be to waitlist for all the resorts for the entire time, and see what comes up! :sunny:

That's what I think I will do. If nothing comes of it, it won't really matter as we love OKW also. Thanks for the advice! :)
