Do you use it at all? Be it ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Deep Seek etc.?

Things I use it for
Finding out stats on a particular item when all I have to go on is an image
Finding out what something is when I have very little to go on
Finding out where I can buy xyz from
Conducting deep searches on an item or research problem
To make the basis for a hypnotic script, to be personalised and made professional

Things I don't use it for
Finding out medical information
Finding out information that can easily be found on Wikipedia or Britannica
Idle searches that don't matter much
Finding images on the net
Searching for personal information
Asking elementary questions that can easily be found on Google etc.

I use AI (mostly ChatGPT) to help with searches or research where a general internet search can be vague or give too many different answers. AI usually helps condense into something that is a better answer, although I never take it as gospel.

The only other thing I use AI for currently is for editing my photos to remove people and other things I don't want to see to make them look better.

I don’t use it at all on an intentional basis. Sometimes when I do a Google search it brings up an AI “summary” but the information in the summary is wrong as often as it is right, so I don’t feel I can rely on it. Out of the OPs list of things they use AI for, I do all of them without AI (with the exception of the scripting, which I don’t do anyway). I don’t see any way to rely on a system that is “learning” from all the inaccurate information out there on the internet. It’s just making it more difficult to find the truth.

Yes, I've used it to track calories and lost 15 lbs doing so. I've used it to give me some general ideas regarding vacations (has to be fact checked on lots of stuff though like distances, drive times, closures, but it can give a nice starting point). I've used it to very successfully troubleshoot various IT things - with my printer, issues with various SW, etc. I've used it to successfully help me figure out the name of a song or book when I only had extremely limited memory of it and other searches weren't turning up anything.

I don't use it for anything. I have goofed around with it, usually just to see what kind of crazy thing it will show me. Good for a laugh, that's about it.

AI can do great things, but it can also cheat you. Henrys Watches purports to sell custom made time pieces from a physical shop. They even have a "Henry" in brown overalls with tools of the trade. BE WARNED! Henry doesn't exist! And these watches? Bought in China for a fraction of the price. In this case, AI has been used to trick punters into spending the thick end of a hundred pounds - as opposed to their real worth, closer to £20.

AI just told me Caroline Kennedy was 3 months old when her father was assassinated. Another AI entry told me that Caroline wore a black veil and saluted her father's casket at his funeral. I know this is garbage... but how many 20-somethings don't?

AI makes many mistakes. Google just told me that next year is NOT 2026, no way, no how. It also used to easily get spelling wrong and made ludicrous pictures for me. It is advancing however. Just make sure you don't treat its word as scripture.

I use it to supplement my trip planning at times if looking for quick answers. I have had to correct it at times. 😂

Man, and they make it so hard to dissable it too!
I have Firefox extensions to remove the AI search results for Google and I found a guide to disable Copilot on my laptop but man I wish I could remove the AI bloatware garbage from my phone.

I use AI extensively at work. Most of the time it completes a task much faster than I could have without its help. Sometimes it makes the task take longer but the net impact is a positive.

I have used AI personally for many purposes. For me it excels at meal planning, taking a chore I dislike and completing it almost instantly. I have used it many times to help me understand medical test results and often use it to reword emails to make them more clear and concise.

I feel that while AI has a long ways to go, you are really missing out if not already trying to use it for your advantage.

AI is either a last resort or if it’s required for some of my classes’ coursework.

I got lucky there as the phone I am currently using was the last one before AI became a thing, so it won’t do it. If I decide to get into AI later, I have a tablet and laptop that have the right hardware to do so. I don’t need it on a phone.

AI has recently "branched out". It can now code computer programmes and web sites, albeit in a simplistic way. I tried it out myself, built a simple website that's still aesthetically appealing and it nailed it. Huge time saver.

But that same tech is using up tons of electricity causing our electricity bills to rise, uses up a ton of water for cooling and now there's a memory (RAM) shortage that is making prices skyrocket for PC's and other electronics.

I use it very sparingly, never for images or videos as there's so many ethical issues with that.

Here's a video about the massive data centers being built in neighborhoods:

I use it to clean up emails. I proofread before sending, but it helps to take the jumbled mess in my head and turn it into complete sentences.

At the end of World War II very few homes had air conditioning.

Between technological advances and the post war boom, AC became a standard home feature by 1960.

During that time I am sure electric rates rose as utilities were initially slow to ramp up generation capacity while demand rose dramatically and there were likely shortages of some items as manufactures shifted to making the more profitable air conditioners.

Consumer computer memory is a very low profit margin item, has been for a decade or more. The memory manufactures are shifting their production to make the higher bandwidth memory used by GPUs that are in turn used by AI because that memory has a much higher profit margin. Once the memory makers saturate the market and the price rises enough on consumer style memory, they will balance their production.

The AI boom is nothing new. It is just another technological advance and the suppliers will adapt to provide the necessary resources because there is money to be made.
