To you S/D experts:

Is it possible to use ONLY one's SPG points for a room, provided that one has enough points? Or do you have to pay a certain amount out of pocket and use some SPG points to make up the difference? How many points are to be redeemed for a free night? I hope that this isn't confusing, but I appreciate any help! We are palnning a 6-night trip taking place in 2005

And BTW, which do y'all prefer Swan OR Dolphin? Why?

Yes, you can use just points for your room. The number of points required depends on the hotel. The Swan/Dolphin require 10,000 points per night. If you stay 4 nights with points, the 5th night is free.

I give the slight preference to the Swan, because it's half the size of the Dolphin, has queen beds, and 2 sinks. It's also the first bus stop to and from the AK and MK.

Thanks SOOOO much!! DH and I are accruing AM EX rewards points (about 70,000 so far) and plan on redeeming them for the SPG program so we can stay at the S/D with my little bro and sis for 6 nights. We have A LOT of accruing to do since 1000 Am Ex points= 333 SPG points!! We have 2 years. . .

Hey,

I have the AMEX SPG card and I get 1 point per $1. There are also bonus deals throughout the year....

Definatly look into switching to a Starwood Am Ex. It is great and you will be upgraded to Gold SPG when you get the card. Lots of point earning oportunity with the card too. right now if you spend $500 between 11/15-1/15 they will double the points to(1000) for every 500 you spend. You can also look into the cash and points for your stay at S/D. It is usualy renewed every 3 mos. For S/D it is 60.00 and 4000 points per night. It expires at the end of Nov but should be extended. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot!! Before DH and I got married almost 1 year ago (Nov. 30!), I just had 1 CC--Visa. Since we've been married, Dh got us the Am Ex Rewards Plus card which gives you double points for every $ you spend on groceries, gas. . . normal, everyday stuff. We already have over 60,000 Am Ex points; 1000 Am Ex points=333 SPG points. In the Am Ex catalog, you can redeem Am Ex points for SPG points at the previously stated conversion. I'll talk to him about the SPG Am Ex card though. Sounds like a cool deal. I'm not a SPG member yet.
How long does the "Gold" status last after you get the card? Do points expire? Thanks again!!
