The park closes at a certain time, then open only to people with a valid ticket to Mickey's Halloween party. What exactly goes on during the party? Is the whole park still open? Can you still go on all the rides? Does EVERY ride hand out candy? And are teenagers and adults discouraged from "trick or treating" in the park? I've been to Disneyland so many times, but never a Halloween party there. Now that I'm 35 my trick or treating days are long over, but I have to admit if I ever do attend Disneyland during Halloween, I sure would love to collect a lot of candy.

the whole park is open, except for some restaurants, the trick or treating is not on ride, but in certain designated trails around the park and it's for guests of any age, there a certain activities exclusive for the party, mostly rare characters meets, a special parade, fireworks and dapper dans.

It's a lot of fun. Most of the rides (if not all) are open. The candy is passed out at trick or treat trails, not rides scattered throughout the park. Everyone is encouraged to get some. We got tons last time we went (no kids). There is a special mini parade with characters in costume, special treats at some restaurants, a special fireworks show which I think is the best they do. There are character picture spots with villains and characters in Halloween costumes.

Most of the park is open during MHP. There are a handful of rides that are not open (see Question #13 of the MHP FAQ). Everyone is welcome to trick-or-treat at the candy trails. None of the rides hand out candy, but there are plenty of treat trails scattered throughout the park. Most have same candy, but a few have unique items.

The party starts at 6:00 pm (weekdays) or 7:00 pm (weekends and Fridays). Guests without party tickets are not allowed to enter any ride or character meet and greet queues, shops or restaurants (except on Main Street, which is available for non-MHP for one hour after the party starts) after that time. They are asked (politely) to head to Main Street and then out of the park. Guests with MHP tickets are allowed to enter DL three hours before the start of the party (so either 3:00 pm or 4:00 pm).

There have been reports that a limited number of tickets are available for day of purchase for guests of the Disney hotels. So if you are staying at one of the three hotels on property, you may still be able to get tickets.

There was also someone on the superthread that mentioned being able to buy tickets to a sold out party at the ticket booth the morning of the party.
