??s about HH DVC resort

Already posted and got some very good answers on another thread about Hilton Head Island and Savannah(pertaining to educational stuff)

Here goes my ??s about the actual HH resort....Can you get a 2nd coffeepot in room(MIL going, needs one for decaf)DW asked this one

Also, since we had booked a 2 bed, MIL has had foot surgery and after some exploring I realized, no elevators. So with this in mind, how are the 2 beds in the Lodge in comparison to other 2 beds. I think the ones in Lodge are more handicap accessible. If I know this to be true, I will call and see if MS can get us in that request.

I'm sure they will be glad to bring you a second coffee pot for your villa. However, if you do end up staying in the main lodge, they have coffee in the lobby every morning!

You will probably want to request the handicapped 2BR in the main building if MIL has trouble with stairs. The only thing is you didn't say when you are going. The 2BRs in the lodge are lockoffs -- if you're going in the near future or going at a time when the resort is full, you may not be able to get it, since there are relatively few 1BRs and studios there. (If they already have all the 1BRs and studios assigned, they may not be able to give it to you...) I'd call MS first thing tomorrow with the request! Just in case, the normal 2 BRs are only 1/2 flight up -- I think 8 steps?

I'm piling on to this thread because we're supposed to leave for HHI on Saturday. I'm a little concerned because the latest storm track has Ernesto hitting the area on Friday. If there are storm related issues, will MS call us?
I have a couple other questions too....
Are all the 2 beds located in the main lodge?
If we order groceries do we have to be there to receive them? We're driving down from NJ, so we may get there kind of late. Having OJ, coffee, milk and cereal in the room for the morning would be great!
My friend's sister is bringing her 17 mth old daughter down. Can we get a crib and high chair put in the room?

I can answer that all the 2 beds arent just in the main lodge. I was looking on the DVC website yesterday and that is when I discovered because of SC lowcountry codes, steps only in the 1st and 2nd floor level buildings(or something like that ) Hope some others can help you with your other ??s.

I can't answer but I am curious as to whether or not you found a store that will deliver. I would love to use this option in the future. I know you can shop your own groceries and they will store them in a closet in the lodge until your villa is ready.

There are pack n plays in the closets. Housekeeping will also bring you a smaller size crib if that works out better for you -- our youngest would crawl out of a pack n play so we could never use one. But, they did have cribs. Never asked about a high chair but I would imagine they have those as well. I'm not sure how much pre-assigning of rooms they do prior to arrival, so I don't know if they could already be in the room waiting.

I think you are right in the 8 steps to the 1st floor. And, about another 16 up to the second floor.

The ground level portion of the building is where you'll find the area to drop your garbage off if you need to empty it.

Being it's low country, if there were severe flooding, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the island did have some floods. We saw some of those storms our last trip -- not hurricane status -- but it seemed water was coming everywhere off Broad Creek -- sideways and all.

I don't think they will call you. Just keep an eye on the weather. I think the only time your reservations would be in jeopardy is if there is a mandatory evacuation of the area. That has only happened once since the resort opened. (We live in the Atlanta area, so we got a lot of the evacuees then!)

On one of our first trips to HH, a severe storm passed through the day before we were to arrive. There were some small branches down and the beach house pool had to close for a couple of days because of all the sand that had blown in. The staff did a remarkable job of keeping things "normal" -- for the most part you'd never have known that there was anything out of the ordinary.

The resort itself has a system of underground pumps to help keep the grounds from becoming large puddles.

If, by chance, it looks like the Hilton Head area is experiencing extreme conditions, just call the resort and they'll let you know what to expect.

Me too, really. The year of the 4 hurricanes in Florida, my friend and I got in and out between numbers 3 and 4 and spend a fun week at WDW. We tend to be JUSTTHISCLOSE when it comes to bad weather.

DW called MS this morning and got the room situation all worked out. We will have a 2 bed lockoff in the Main lodge. She said that the lady at MS was very helpful and though it took awhile, we were able to get this taken care of. When we booked back in the spring, MIL had no foot problem. Then it dawned on me yesterday, no elevators in other bldgs. I remember reading a post about this some time back here on the DIS.

I am assuming that HH has high speed internet service like the other resorts in WDW. Is this true? DW says no point intaking the computer with our old slow laptop, but it would be nice to have to get those quick directions to places and places to eat down there( and keep in touch with yall fellow DISers)

Nope...dial up is all there is, and don't forget the charge for calls. I'd recommend doing your homework before you go. On the other hand, the Island has several very good publications with dining reviews and driving directions (you'll get two of them in your welcome home folder and you can pick up the others at any shop or restaurant). We'll still be here when you get back to reality.

No high speed internet yet for HHI, but when I called the front desk last week and asked, they said it is being installed and should be there very shortly. My verizon wireless data card had a great connection at the resort for my laptop. Of course you need the card from verizon, but if you have one you're set.

As for the groceries, there is a grocery store within Shelter Cove, literally 2 to 3 minutes from the resort. I know I saw at least one advertisment for grocery delivery, but I think this was from a third party and not directly with a supermarket.

Finally, I want to highly recommend the Hilton Head Diner which is also about 2 minutes from the resort. We had a lot of bad luck dining out in HHI in terms of quality and service. Quite frankly, we were disappointed. Our best meals were at the diner both from quality and service. In case you didn't know, there is no full service restaurant at the resort. Only snack bars at the beach and at the resort.

Mellow Mushroom (near Sea Pines Circle) and Atlanta Bread Company (near the Wal-Mart) are two places that come to mind a having free wi-fi. There is also an Internet cafe at Coligny Plaza, where you can bring your laptop and have Internet access for a fee.

If you need to print something, I'd recommend either sending the file to the Staples (near the Publix at Sea Pines Circle) for printing, or using the Internet Cafe. I think Staples is probably the less expensive of those options, although I have had problems with customer service at the Staples on occasion when I've tried to do this.
