I really, really want to stay at the fort this April. We were supposed to last year and had to change to POR when my MIL ended up coming with us. My husband says that he doesn't feel like Disney is a place he wants to "rough" it (we rent a pop up), but I have two nature lovin' kiddos who I know would love it, and camping just seems more fun than staying in a hotel room. I figure if I can find an RV to rent that has a shower and isn't the size of a bedroom closet he might go for it. The other thing is that I have a 40% off code that makes the WL a little over 200 a night, and I know he wouldn't go for it if the RV was more expensive then the lodge.
Anyone know of any affordable and good rental places in Orlando?

I forgot to mention that the big reason I would rather stay at the fort rather than at WL and then walking over to the fort to take advantage of everything it offers is that I really, really want to "loop" around in a golf cart!!! Golf carts= good times in my book!!

I can not help too much with the RV rental part, but I have thought about doing the same. I think that I have seen on this board where some people rent out their RVs. I know that I have looked at Camping World Rentals. They have a place in Orlando that I could pick it up from.

Our trip in May will be in the Cabins at FW. We stayed in the them before they were converted from trailers to cabins a couple of times in the mid-90s and are looking forward to being back. We always rent a cart and enjoy using them. Maybe you can talk him into a Cabin if not an RV.

Thanks for the replies!!
I will check out both of those websites! The cabins are a great idea, but are actually a bit more expensive than the WL. Maybe I could talk him into it though!

Thanks Carol, I have been looking for Donnie's link for days!!! I am hoping to own a popup by our trip, but if not, may rent from Donnie, it may turn out easier and cheaper anyway.

Tell your husband to stop being a baby,,he needs to take his family camp'n at the Fort.

And tell him to take the kids fish'n too.

Camping at the Fort is always the better way to go. Much more relaxing, and a lot cheaper if you cook a few of your meals. If you have kids, I could easily predict $50 per day or more savings if you cook one meal per day at the site.

There are some photos of Tina's fifth wheel rental trailer on this board, taken by BigDaddyRog while he was at the October grand gathering. Looks like a really nice trailer.

From what I hear, Donny's pop-up rental is also great, but if DH needs a full bathroom, not sure he'll want the comfort stations. The comfort stations were so nice at the Fort that I used them each day even though our trailer had a full bathroom.

Isn't that what I just said ? :confused3

Ha ha!! Trust me I have!!!
After giving me a more detailed explanation of why he didn't want to camp at Disney, it had more to do with the fact that he didn't want to try and cram camping activitys and Disney activitys into one week. My solution? Stay longer!!!
Now my "I don't want to rough it at disney" husband wants to go tent camping at the fort for the first 7 days and then spend two nights at the Poly.
Now I'm the one being the wimp because while I love to tent camp. In the mountains. Where it cools down considerably at night. Florida? I'm thinking that tent would be an oven and we would all be baked extra crispy after one night!!!

Oh you are right!! We could save a lot of money by eating at the campsite, but my husband really wants the dining plan. It's actually the only reason I might get to stay at the fort this time!!! We can use armed forces vacation club or SOG for much cheaper than staying on Disney property, but my husband loved the dining plan! He liked having everything pre paid and not having to tell anyone they couldn't have something because it was too expensive. He was all set to go with out it and then I got a 40% off pin and now as long as it's not a ton more expensive he wants to stay on property and get it.
The 5th wheel looks amazing, but I also really like the price of the pop up....hmmm....decisions, decisions!
Thanks everyone for all the help!!!
It makes twisting my husbands arm much easier!!!
(I mean really I can stay at a 5 star hotel for half what Disney charges to stay at their "deluxe" hotels any time, but how often can you go camping with chip and dale, fireworks, a water parade, and a ferry to the MK!?!?)
