Sounds about right. I estimated the same when we looked into renting a Class C.

Its 2000 miles round trip. I factored in 3.55 per gallon fuel and 10 mpg.

I just did quote somewhere. It was $95 a day, not bad, but here is the very big but. I would have to buy 4 "units of 500 mile "packages" at $210 per package.

When you add in prep and other fees you are looking at around $1,800 for a week. That's just the RV rentals so with gas, $2,500. The only savings are that campgrounds on the way are cheaper than hotels. Its just you have to park and set up your own room.

Now that I did this I remember the last time I priced out an RV for someone with the same question it was about the same.

ETA: I did it for cruise america in Pittsburgh and it was 1,976.47. Saturday to Saturday for a week in this August. They charge .34 per mile over 700 miles.

Yeah the costs do add up, just the way it is. I'm more worried about space. Not sure the three of us will still be friendly after a week in a RV. We usually stay in 1 bedroom suites when we travel, with my kid on the foldout, in a separate room.

We rented a class c from cruiseamerica about 10yrs ago. Same reasons as you, we had little ones and wanted to try camping, see what fort wilderness was like and traveling in a large motorhome. It's expensive but worth it. If you are considering buying a camper this is the best way to go. We pulled into the outpost and I was in love! I was also worried that we were going to get "unfriendly" after awhile but when that happens we go to the pool, stores or just ride around the loops on the golf cart. That usually gets everybody out of the funk and back in the Disney mood. You'll know after this trip if this is for you and will either love it or hate it. My sister in law rented a class c to see if it was for them and hated it. She is more the room service, I don't want to see a kitchen type.
