Ruth Chris Steakhouse?

I was thinking it was like the "sizzling platter" thing one of my local restaurants uses for their filet
Same "sizzling platter", just no additional cooking ;). Check out the RC website. They do broil the steaks (1,800 degrees - YIKES :earseek: ), and serve it "sizzling on a heated plate so it stays hot throughout your meal". I'd say more warm than hot - but it works :). Boy, I wish I had lunch - now I am REALLY hungry!

The platter at my local place (El Meson in West Carrollton, OH, and by the by if you're ever anywhere near there, GO!!! because other than the filet cooking problem, it's AWESOME) is kind of like one of those Pampered Chef baking stones. So they're essentially bringing you your food still in the oven, just without the oven top. Just a little random trivia for ya! ;)

I have been to them all: Shula's, Ruth's Chris, Charley's, Bern's, Roy's, Fleming’s, The Palm, Plaza, Chop House and in my opinion, the yachtsman at the Yacht Club is as good as any. Not a bad value either.

Just to "add on" to my earlier post:
My one experience at the Ruths Chris in Baltimore was not a good one. I ordered my filet medium--it came out nearly raw--and I mean, RAW--in the middle. And no "sizzling plates" for me or any of the other 5 people we were with--by the time our meals got to us, the plates had done lost any sizzle they might have had.

Now it was terribly busy that nite, so maybe that had something to do with it--.

I do agree that the Yachtsman Steakhouse makes a pretty tasty steak too. I know some disagree with that, but also, I've never had a bad time there either. I think it's got a nice Disney atmosphere too so it's a nice place to eat when you want a steak, but want to stay in that Disney feel. Uncleromulus, if your steaks didnt' come out sizzling then something was definitely wrong since that's their big feature, that your steak will stay hot the entire meal, etc. So I'm guessing maybe your waiter was slow or maybe since you said it was crowded he was just busy and your food sat there awhile. Not the usual treatment though so I'd give it another chance. My fiancé and I went to college at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and our families took us to the Balto Ruth's Chris for our graduation dinner and everything was wonderful. We did have 2 waiters since we had a very large group and were seated upstairs in our own private room so that probably helped keep everything coming on time.

Uncle, I'm glad you clarfied...It really is unlike you to give such a negative review based on one sampling, isn't it?

In my two experieinces at Shula's I've had no complaints with the steak, but the sides and service were different story. I have had two steaks at FF of which I absolutely raved about for weeks (literally). Note: I've had the steak at FF probably 6 times, two were ravingly good, 3 were great (as expected), 1 was a little tough.

Steak is a hard thing to be consistent with but at the prices we're talking they should be pretty darn close to perfect, IMO...

I've been to Ruth's Chris twice and felt my money was well spent. I aways feel that way at FF & CG, too, but both experiences at Shula's had me feeling a little 'light in the wallet', if you know what I mean...

Eyesnur and justhat:
Your right of course--it could have been one of those "bad nites" and my policy is to always give a second chance--why, I even gave Fulton's a third and a fourth chance!!

Another part of the problem was probably my "vow" never ever to go to downtown Baltimore again (after I retired in January 2001). It was such an awful place to work!! Must say I've pretty well kept my promise--only been downtown twice in those 2 years and one of those was to Ruths Chris (we'd gotten a XMAS gift certificate).
My enthusiasm and appetite left me as soon as we got on the JFX headed downtown--brought back those awful memories!!!

That's funny Uncle...And I can sympathize. I was a banker for 12 years earlier in my life and walked away to do my own thing. I walked away mostly from suits & ties and have been wearing shorts and flip flops for 14 years now...I don't think I could go back either!...Which ironically is one reason I'll probably never try V&A's!

I have always liked your reviews for their fairness and I have always stated that except for possibly a few circumstances any restaurant deserves at least two tries before the dreaded "I'll never eat there again" monniker is given it...Like you with Fulton's, we've tried ESPN four times and found it totally unacceptale to our criteria each time.

Yeah, I agree about Baltimore, as after my 4 years there I didn't ever plan to return. I've been back once to visit a friend and that's it. I still don't get it when people tell me they are vacationing in Baltimore and what a beautiful city it is!
