Long story short, my 2 kids and I will be flying standby tomorrow (fingers crossed) to LAX. The problem with flying standby is that it makes it really hard to make hotel reservations and transportation reservations because I don't know if we'll actually get on the flight or not.

Pretty much the only hotel I can find around Disneyland (walking distance, I have 4 & 8 year olds) that still has space available is Americas Best Value on Katella. I'm ok w/ the hotel, and will call to reserve a room as soon as I know which flight we'll be able to get on, but I have no idea how to get from LAX to that hotel.

I looked at the Super Shuttle website, and they don't go to that hotel, and obviously the Disney shuttle doesn't go there. Besides paying $100 for a taxi, or renting a car, how can we get there? And how do we return to LAX several days later?

thanks for any input. I wish this wasn't so last minute, but this week has been a bit nuts. I was originally planning to fly Sunday or Monday, but it isn't going to work out, so I have to go earlier.

Hi, You can look into taking the Disneyland Resort Express. It stops at most of the good neighbor hotels. If your hotel is not on the list of stops, you can chose one that is in walking distance. You don't need to make reservations to go to Anaheim. The shuttle can also take you back to LAX, but you need to make reservations for that. They also give discount for airline ID holders (not family, just employee). Hope this helps. At least, it is something to go on for now. Good luck and have a great time.

Thanks for the link. Ok, so on the list (schedule C) it says it stops at the Super 8 Katella, which is next to the hotel I'm hoping to stay at. So will the shuttle stop there automatically, or do I need to ask them to stop there? And how do I know which bus will go there? Do they have signs or something? If I don't make a reservation ahead of time and pay online, how do I pay for the ticket? I've heard that many people tip shuttle drivers. Is that true for this shuttle as well?

Sorry for all the questions. I just really have no idea what I'm doing. :) I appreciate any help!

Just ask, you actually will most likely transfer at the Disneyland Hotel.

As far as the stop at the motel 8, it will probably using the bus stop along Katella, I think that stop is actually in front of garden walk.

ok, thanks. I guess I am just going to have to play it by ear. I wonder if I could get a taxi at the Disneyland Hotel. It shouldn't cost too much to go a few blocks, right? That would be easier than lugging all of our luggage down the sidewalk at 11pm from Garden Walk ..... Our flight (hoping that we will get on!) will arrive to LAX at about 9:30pm.

If you download the Disneyland Express brochure there is a picture of the bus. It has the Disney graphics on the outside. You can't miss it, so you will know it when you see it coming. Don't let the small shuttles talk you into going with them. The driver will ask you for your hotel name. You will stop at the Disneyland Hotel first. Someone will come onboard to collect payment at that time. You then either change to another bus or stay on that same bus to continue on to other hotels. We usually give the driver a few dollars when he drops us off at our hotel & retrieves our bags.

ok, another question. It looks like my flight to LAX might be too full now, but there is a flight to Orange County that looks like we might be able to get on. Are there shuttles from SNA to the disneyland area? Do they only go to the DLR hotels, or do they go other places, too? Or is it easier to just get a taxi? ;)

It would be easier just to catch a taxi from SNA. SNA is closer to DL than LAX, but even then it's around a 30 min drive.

There are shuttles from SNA. I believe both Supershuttle and the Disneyland Express service are available and charge a little less than from LAX. SNA is closer than LAX, so a taxi ride won't be as expensive as from LAX, if you decide to go that route.

Thanks for all the help. We flew to SNA and caught a shuttle right outside the doors. Easy peasy. They took us right to the hotel. Tomorrow we'll have fun wandering around the neighborhood, swimming and making a strategy, and Monday and Tuesday we'll be park hopping! Super excited.

Glad everything turned out! It was fun to read through this very eventful thread and see the happy ending.

Have a great time!!!

Just wanted to say: Yay! You made it! :yay::yay:

My mom has worked for the airlines for most of my life so we know all about standby ... last few years with the mergers its gotten really tough so we've started to buy confirmed tickets/use miles for our 'big' trips and just standby for the more impromptu ones. I do  DLR stopovers when I standby though!
(Both SNA and ONT are much nicer/better airports than LAX IMHO)
