Hi all,

I've always been a laid-back runner in the past, just running when and where and how I long I felt like it. But now I have decided to actually start training.

How do you keep track of your progress?

Do you have a running journal? If so, what does it look like? What sort of entries do you make?

Do you use a computer program or website to track? If so, then what?

Thanks. Just trying to get different viewpoints. :)

Do you have a smartphone? there are lots of apps to help track progress..
I have an Iphone and I have Nike & Ipod (requires a sensor), Nike & GPS, RunKeeper and just started with B210K.

Run Keeper is by far the better smsrt phone app. But I still keep all logs on Training Peaks. You can use a free service or pay a fee and unlock a lot of extras. I log everything here from shoe miles, bike use, weather, pace (with attached Garmin File), weight. It has a great set of analytical tools that can help analyze training load that can help predict performance.

I'm old school and just keep a notebook. I have my miles, minutes, pace and thoughts about each run. I tally it each week. I know that I need to move up to some sort of online tracker, but just find this easier.

I use my Garmin to keep track of my runs and bicycle workouts. I also keep an Excel spreadsheet of my daily walks I do at work.

Wow, way more options out there than I thought. Thanks for the responses, I can see it will be trial and error to see which one works best.

Now I am off to figure out how to use my inherited Garmin. :hippie:

All my runs end up 3 places. In my running journal that has time, distance, route, and some discriptive info (temp, what I wore, how I felt). I also use a Garmin and upload the workout to the Garmin software and SportTracks. I use the notes section to basically copy what I write in the journal. Lastly, I have a calendar where I put all of my fitness activities just to track it. The only thing that goes on there from my runs in miles but I use it to track which days I hit the gym and what muscles I worked, the sports I play, and so on so I can get a snapshot of everything.

I use Runkeeper and the Garmin site, but not everything gets to these. I also use the good old calendar where I write miles, cross training and which shoes to help me keep an idea on shoe mileage.

It would probably be easier if I did log it all in one place, but that would be too efficient for me.
