Running for my Disney - Finally a TR!

I believe I did but only after you made the remark and I went back and looked more closely!

I showed my husband the photo. All he saw was that everyone had a medal except your DH:rotfl2:

This might be a long-arm shot on my part....but it might be hand-y to point out that optical illusion. ;)

Perhaps it would ;)

:rotfl: Yes, DH opted not to register for the 5k in case he didn't arrive in time (we didn't have our flights booked then). By the time he booked his flights and realised he would be there in time, the 5k was well and truly sold out.

Turned out for the best though, since he obviously needed a sleep in that day!

So for those who didn't pick up the optical illusion, here's another look at the photo.

I think Dad must have the world's longest arm!

:lmao:

California Adventure

After relaxing at our hotel for a while, we headed back out for dinner. This time we tried the Rainforest Café.

There was a noticeable difference in the number of people walking around DTD, and there was quite a long wait to get a table at the Rainforest Café. We chose to sit on the terrace, as it was only a 5 minute wait, and we didn’t particularly need all the indoor effects. We had a look in the gift shop while we were waiting.

It was very pleasant sitting on the terrace, nice and quiet, and nice weather (although I would have been more comfortable with a light cardi). We ordered some fancy non-alcoholic drinks to start.

I had a voucher for a free appetizer. We chose the quesadillas and they were very yummy! Mum and I shared an order of fried prawns for our main. We asked for the coleslaw on the side as I HATE coleslaw and won’t eat anything that has been touched by it lol! I forget what the boys had, but we all enjoyed our meals and the whole experience.

We made our way back into DCA after dinner, and had time for a few rides before calling it a night. The pitfalls of leaving it so long to write a TR mean that I don’t remember what we actually did lol!

Somewhere over the course of the evening, DH's $20 K-Mart sneakers started falling apart. The insole part started scrunching up and becoming uncomfortable. It was too late to buy a new pair - he would just have to run with them as they were the next day.

We definitely did Luigi’s Flying Tires. Mum had been eyeing it off before, and it seemed to be a fairly short line so we hopped in as the final ride of the night.

I wasn’t counting on it being such a slow moving line! I was starting to get tired and grumpy, and our legs and feet were all starting to feel the effects of the day. It was probably a bad idea to stick it out, but we did nonetheless, and had a fun ride.

By the time we got back to our room and ready for bed, it was nearly time for the fireworks again. I decided to watch from our window for a while this time, since I knew that I wouldn’t be able to sleep. It was quite a decent view, but not a very comfortable place to watch, both squished up against a tiny window between the bathroom door and the basin area lol!

We went to bed about halfway through, for comfort more than anything else, and fell asleep soon after the fireworks finished.

Mammoth day - and then another run - I take my hat off to you! (and your parents). We still haven't ever tried a Rainforest cafe! I think we must be one of the few posters who haven't!

Lol! This was nothing compared to the next day ;)

The Rainforest Cafe generally gets bad reviews on the DIS. Everyone agrees that it's a fun atmosphere that kids enjoy, but nobody seems to like the food and it's expensive for what it is. We've now eaten at the Paris one once and the DLR one twice, and enjoyed our food each time. As for the price, yes it's probably more expensive than you would generally pay for a meal out in the US. But for an Aussie, that's pretty akin to our normal eating out prices, so it doesn't seem that bad to us :rotfl: and it's pretty in line with the rest of the Disney restaurants - they're all expensive for what they are!

Oh the Rainforest Cafe! One of my DD's has her heart set on eating there, so it's good to hear something positive about it. We would definitely want indoor seating, so do you think it would be better if we make a reservation? And where did you get a voucher for a free appetizer?

I don't think you'll have a problem. This was a Friday night on a long weekend at the end of summer, with running crowds coming in. Later in the trip (at a quieter time) we went for dinner again, and it was only a 20 minute wait. If you were walking past earlier in the day, you could always make a same day booking for dinner. That way you maintain some flexibility, but you also know that you won't have a wait. I imagine lunch would be quieter too, and it's exactly the same atmosphere inside :thumbsup2 I've actually also heard it's good for breakfast too!

There's a whole heap of vouchers on this website. That's where I got my voucher, but they do change, so not sure if it's still up there.

If anyone has a birthday on or just before your trip, and you are DEFINITELY going to eat at the Rainforest Cafe or Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, consider joining the Landry's club. It costs $25 to join, but you get a $25 voucher just for joining, and you get an extra $25 voucher for your birthday. You also get priority seating and a discount on their merchandise. It worked well for us later in the trip :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing the website, Zanzibar. :thumbsup2

Looks like a great night. I can understand you being tired.

Finally caught up! Loving the report so far :thumbsup2 you certainly pack a lot in!
