Has anyone done any of the disney marathons? What was it like? I'm thinking about doing one in the future, when we can afford the trip :)

I think you'll find most of the people on the WISH baords have done one of marathons at Disney (full or half).

What was it like? A lot of fun.

I'd suggest looking at the marathon threads on the Events/Competition board for specifics.

We did our first in Jan, the half marathon. We worked up to it for 6 months. We wanted to finish under 3 hours. There are quite a mixture of people who do them. Some were very serious and were there to run others were there to have fun and stopped for every character interaction. We were somewhere in the middle but did not bring any cameras. We were surprised to see so many cameras and cell phones but quickly realized why.

It was allot of fun. Have decided to do it again and are adding on the 5K, not goofy enough for the goofy challenge and not ready for a full marathon.

I have completed the Disney Marathon. I have to say for the $$ it was a one time thing for me. There are local ones near me where I had a lot more fun, entertainment and nicer gifts.

Maybe it was because I had to walk it and didn't 'stop' for fear I would get 'swept'. I had trained to interval the marathon only to have IT band issues just prior to the event. With not training to walk it I wasn't sure what my time would be and didn't want to take chances.

I think if you have time to stop and enjoy the characters it is nice. There isn't much going on unless you are inside the parks. Nothing on the expressways to entertain you.

I think everyone should do it once just to say they did it.

Definitely stop by the Events/Competition side of WISH. You will find many answers to the question.

I did Disney half marathon and then full marathon as my firsts. I could not think of a better way to break into the first. It is not a PR or fast course, more one to enjoy and have fun in my opinion. Not a lot of crowd support outside of the parks, but you do go through the parks and it is fun.

I've run several marathons. I've certainly enjoyed the disney marathon and will be going back for number 3 this january. They put on a good show and its one of the best run races out there. You will for the most part not want for anything while on the course. If you stay on site (I recommend for this convenience) you literally wake up, stumble down to the lobby, hop on a bus, get dropped off at the bag drop, walk to the start, run the race, walk through bag pickup, and on the bus back to the hotel. Obviously there are spectator/meetup areas and you can hang out, they certainly dont force you to leave, but everything is right there if you want it.

I have a picture I took going down Main Street during my first marathon and someone was holding a sign that said "Never Forget This Feeling." It is a picture I cherish and I DO still remember that feeling everyday. Sometimes it brings a little tear to my eye the joy I felt and that person was so right. The feeling you have running down Main Street, or anywhere really, sticks with you for long after the race. People you don't even know are cheering your name, screaming, blowing horns and high five-ing you as you run by. There are several people, whose names I never knew, who I spoke with while running on the course, but without those people I know I would never have finished. It truly is an experience of a LIFETIME and a feeling you will never EVER forget!!
