It is so darn cold lately, and I think it has really brought on some arthritis - either that or I have developed a case of runner's knee? I am tender to the touch around the bottom part of my knee caps (especially the left one) and just ache. As an aside, I have had thee knee surgeries - one reconstruction about ten years ago. I have been training for the half but I don't think it's from overuse, because I certainly have not put the miles in that I probably should have. I have been icing it on and off. Any suggestions for race day?

Given the history I hate to make much of a recommendation. A neoprene sleeve would warm the knee and make it feel better. I would wear that full time between now and race day. Except at night when I would apply Bio Feeze to the area

I think I would avoid a CHo-Pat or other strap as the patella tendon may be inflamed and putting pressure on that may not be a great idea.

Kenesio taping could help if it were runner's knee but that is an over use injury. If you want to try that anyway I would stop at the KTTape booth and have them tape the knee Friday afternoon.

If arthritis, I would BioFreeze the area Saturday morning and head out the door.

I have been noticing a pain on my knee caps, left worse than right, for the past couple of months. I would put some biofreeze on them before my workouts and that helped. On Saturday I discovered KT Tape at my local running store. They gave me a sample and my husband taped my knees that night. Very little pain since.

You can go online and watch a video on how to properly tape the affected area. You can wear the strips up to 5 days. I am going out today or tomorrow to buy a box to travel with.

However, in your case, you might want to run the scenario by your surgeon to see if she has any advice before taping your knee caps.
