Ellite Racing (aka Rock and Roll Series) started charging. Shhhhh don't tell the mouse. You could still get online updates through a computer but there was a charge to get alerts.
The only time we have ever used it was at MCM, it was in the VIP tent and I know my DH used it for free.
They had live data, you could see a live update on a map of where you where any secound!!!!
If it is anything like the DL half, the updates won't come in until an hour after you have crossed the finish line. With the 5k, 10k, 10 mile & finish times coming in all at the same time.

It's really hit and miss - mostly miss over the last 3 years. The first couple years it was offered the alerts were spot on. Actually most of my starts have still been within 3-5 minutes of crossing. Usually soemwhere are 10 - 16 miles is where the system has locked up. In 08 I got notice of finishing as I was headed for bed. Made sleeping a little easier to know I was off the course.

At least when I tried it at the San Antonio Marathon last month, all the reports went out within minutes of me crossing each point. I did pay $5 (total) to send the alerts out to 5 people.
2009 worked beautifully. DH and I sent them to each other and to ourselves, as well as DD (sleeping peacefully in the hotel room), and it was entertaining to get them as we made our way through the course.
The Richmond marathon offered them for free as well, and they were great. DH knew my finish time almost before I did!
For me, they were miss. DH and I ended up calling each other although it is not always convenient for me, it seemed that at least he got current information.
