RunDisney Mom's Panel

I can't figure out what criteria they used for round 2. They never asked in the round 1 questions anything about having kids or not. No idea what they were looking for.

Piraterunner: Good luck to you pirate: Maybe we can have 2 WISHers make it to round 3 :thumbsup2

I saw that there were 6-8 men on the last panel!

Yeah, they have 6. I suppose I should have been more clear - when they add new panelists, they typically only add one or two men - IIRC, most of the current men were on the previous panel (though I could be wrong, and frankly, it's late, so I am not feeling like researching that tonight). It's still 6 to 24 - that's not exactly the most encouraging odds when it comes to the application process.

If you look at the past panelists, it's 4 men, and 29 women.

So, if they add 12 new panelists this year, you'll probably see 1-2 men, and 1 woman without kids. And the rest will be moms.

I think they are trying to replace only about half of the panel each year, to avoid having to bring in a bunch of people without an experienced crew to mentor them. They may add more than 12 this year, since they have added the specialty panelists, but I doubt that the ratio of 1 in 6 will be terribly different. It might hit as high as 1 in 5, but I doubt it will be higher - if it is, it might be a sign that Disney is thinking about rebranding the Moms Panel as more of a Parents Panel.

Good luck to you both. I just wish I knew what they used as well - they didn't ask anything about running, and frankly, my favorite resort just plain sucks for running at Disney. Seriously - AKL is terrible for it. Boardwalk is great, and Port Orleans isn't bad, and OKW seems pretty nice, as does Ft Wilderness & Wilderness Lodge. But while AKL seems like it should be a great place to run, it just isn't. Maybe I should have lied about that portion of the questions.

I would agree since most of Disney's newest and biggest events(Half Marathons) are 60+% women and that are adding more women themed events. Why would they want a person in the minority helping out those in the majority :confused3 . RunDisney has a guy(Jeff Galloway) anyway.

I had a reply typed out to this, and I can't post it. I am done trying to argue with that kind of logic. I'm already kept out of a lot of "parenting" groups because of that pesky Y chromosome, why should Disney be any different?

AFAIK, Galloway isn't advising people on the Moms Panel either, but hey, Disney is showing more and more that they don't want my money anyway.

Sorry I'm late to this thread, just noticed it!

I applied (2nd or 3rd time for me, I forget) and made it to round 2.

Congratulations to Jen and Pirate (am I missing anyone from this thread) and best wishes to you for making it to the next round!

Best of luck to ALL of you in Round 2! Being a part of this community (WISH and the DIS) already speaks to your commitment to the kind of folks that they need for this panel!

Hey, I'm late to this - got my "thanks, but no thanks" letter; not surprised for various reasons.

But what I really wanted to say is CONGRATS to those who made it to round 2. WISHers would make an excellent addition to the Moms Panel for runDisney - or in general!

I got my "thanks but no thanks" letter last night. I believe Piraterunner is out too.

There is a big Moms Panel Hopefuls thread on the community board that has a running list for all of the panels. I have seen only 1 person make it for runDisney so far. The numbers making it to round 3 seem kind of low to me, but that is just judging form the dis and facebook pages, so I don't really know.

If anyone has more info I'd love to know.

Debating if I want to try again next year or not, although it is really way too early for those kind of thoughts. It probably mean I will keep trying, we'll see.

Looks like no guys have made the third round :( Wonder how many without kids made round two or round three?

Historically, the numbers advancing to Round 3 is not much higher than the number of new panelists. If you make the cut to round 3, you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

Any news??? They announced today! I am dying to know who the run disney mom/dad might be!

I read on the main Moms Board thread that lorilovell from here (also on Facebook I think) made it as a runDisney rep. Haven't heard of any others for that role.

Robert - any updates here? I know you are very concerned...would love to hear the results.

If she is the one that is great.

Her vast experience of on WDW 5K(in Jan) and her first WDW relay at W&D Half make her very qualified. That's obviously why Disney asked what races you participated in :rolleyes1

On top of that she is a woman with kids. No wonder the rest of the people who applied had no chance. Especially if they are the other sex and have no rug rats :)

Now you know hwy it is called what it is :thumbsup2

I am actually quite impressed by those that made the final cut and are now on the panel. I am so happy for them. It is such an amazing honor!!

They are great ambassadors for Disney, proofread their posts and seem to be quite educated (which is important when you have to post to a blog), and would be congratulating others if they hadn't have made it rather than pouting about it. I think the true Disney fan and runDisney ambassador is one that is an all around great person, who is helpful, tells the truth and follows their own advice, who plays by the rules, and who have the support of friends that they may not always see eye to eye with but appreciate the different perspectives even if their advice isn't taken. Every runner is different and they should be recognized for that. I know for a fact that those picked fit that description extremely well and am so proud that Disney realized that! I know that there were a lot of people that were close to fitting those standards, but I think that Disney made the right decision regarding who would be their first runDisney Mom's Panel members! :thumbsup2 It had to be a really hard decision in the end for those that made round 3.

We will get to meet them all in December or maybe as late as the first week of January and will probably see them at races in 2012! I can't wait!! :goodvibes

Sorry you didn't make it past round 2 Robert. Maybe next year...

I DON'T and WON'T be part of Disney's propaganda machine. I will NEVER apply again. This was a test from what I heard from other men who have be slighted. This proves their point. When would I want to work for Disney for 2 years :) They have enough Kool-aid drinkers that they don't need another one :woohoo:

Shelby: Very well said. :goodvibes I would not want the job of choosing from so many good candidates, it had to be tough.

I am proud to have made it to round 2 and hope to get further next year. Disney does seem to have a good system for picking people even if I don't understand what method they use. I personally love the idea of people supporting each other to achieve goals be it running at Disney or just having a great family vacation. Maybe I'll be lucky next year, or maybe not, but it doesn't change my love of Disney and the inspiration I get from some of those "Moms" chosen.
