It's Not the Years, It's the Mileage - birthday marathon training journal

Congrats on your PR!

I've also experienced weird shoulder pain while running that impacted my ability to run fast. I totally forgot about it so I'm not sure why it happened or how I remedied it so not super helpful but sometimes it's nice to know you're not alone.
Thank you! A non-runner friend of mine mentioned that it could have been tied to my sore thigh/groin if it affected my gait. I'm not sure if that's the case, but it made sense to me. Either way, definitely need to keep consistent on the core/upper body workouts - and NOT lift the week of a race. :P

I resisted! I almost bought the Rebel Princess skort but white/light silver just doesn't look good on me, no matter how cute it is in photos. I could use a smaller size in the FF bra, but since I would need to sell mine anyway, I suspect I could swap on the B/S/T group. Everything is still available this morning, interestingly. While I was considering, a sapphire jewel skort somehow fell into my cart, so at least I have that to match FF.

Ooh, I want the blue one too, but it’s sold out my size. :( Same with the black. But I have enough skirts for now. 🤣

The Padme skirt is sold out in medium too, so I’m glad I snagged it last night!

There's nothing much to report for the past few weeks of running. I took a few days off after my race and have been doing shorter runs since then, as well as keeping up with strength training and my daily walks.

And then yesterday I rolled my ankle while running and can now barely put weight on it. Yay! 😭

The pain got worse throughout the day yesterday and it was still hurting when I woke up. So I went to urgent care this morning, and thankfully the X-rays didn't show any fractures. I mostly wanted to rule out a break so I didn't inadvertently make it worse. I was told to do all the things I was already doing - RICE - and got a wrap and boot. I'm allowed to put weight on it since it's not broken, but was told no running until all the pain has gone away. 😭😭😭 Who knows how long that will be. I'm trying to look on the bright side: nothing is broken, it should heal on its own, and I'm not training for anything right now. But I'm really bummed about not being able to run, and even walk! My dog keeps "asking" for walks and I feel so bad that I can't take her. :(

I need to remember this for the next time I don't feel like running. :P

Thanks, everyone. <3 My ankle felt MUCH better when I woke up this morning. I guess RICE-ing really works! I was able to (slowly) walk the dog around the block this morning, and can put more weight on my foot. Still won't be considering running for a bit, but I'm hopeful I can at least start walking longer.

Glad to hear that you're healing quickly.

One thing that my PT is adamant about is that when you return to running after an injury, the first run should be 10 minutes and absolutely no more. His explanation is that it provides enough stress to test the injury, but not too much. Then, if you feel okay afterwards and the next day, you can start adding more running.

Just something to keep in mind...

Thanks! I was planning to start with very short and slow runs, and probably on the treadmill in case I need to bail. 👍

I love how running makes me feel, but I HATE the way I feel when I CAN'T run.

Literally was just thinking, "why do I feel so sad?" And then realized, "BECAUSE I CAN'T RUN OR EVEN WALK OTHER THAN WALKING THE DOG." 😭

My wife says she likes me a lot more when I am running and the few years I stopped, things are just different. I agree with her and you on this, running just does something that makes me happy. Even when I do not feel like it, after a mile or so I am glad I am doing it and have a much better outlook on the day. Hope you recovery quickly and are back to doing what you love soon!
