Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Midnight and just scooped up all my fast passes with great times. Whoop Whoop!

I had a hard time choosing between aerosmith and toy story, but I chose toy story. Never been on it

They are both awesome but the general wisdom that I've heard is that you're better off with the Toy Story FP, especially if you've never been on it - so that's great. Reason being that Toy Story is super popular and appeals to every age group, whereas Aerosmith has a height restriction and some people don't do roller coasters - it also has a single rider line too!

So excited for you that you got everything on your wish list!

At this point I am just hoping for the night activities there. I am hoping that we can get a FP as well or even a Dining package but I am afraid if they do release those it was cost us more than we can afford. If they do have 3 shows it would at least give us a better chance. Fingers crossed!! So funny you mentioned packing lol!!! We are 47 days out and I know exactly what I, the boys and my husband will be wearing each day lol!!! I plan on Disney bounding and the boys will too some what. That I am really looking forward too!!! I even stated a thread on it to help me get away from the anxiety of ROL!!
I am 39 days out and I have no clue what we will be wearing, lol.

Will you be surprised to know that there are no dining packages released for the last week of April yet? In other news, just 6 more days until I don't have to click the month forward to check my trip! Honestly, I am starting to get over the moon excited about our vacation. Last trip was May of 2014 and I have been Disney dreaming or planning every day since for this trip. It has been so nice to come here and share my craziness on this thread with all of you!
**Shocked!!**

For you to first get over the anxiety you have to accept that Disney isn't doing this to you, you are. Plan with what you know. If you want to be able to change, than remain flexible.

The key to success almost anywhere is having a well organized plan of execution but the ability to throw it away at a moments notice and still be successful. Avoid being too rigid.

Things will come out soon and so long as you check once a day, you will be far ahead of the masses. It will all work itself out and you will have a magical time. And if ROL is delayed until Fall, you will still have a magical time. And if it is offered and you miss out on all dining packages, FP+ and it is cancelled every night you are there, you will still have a magical time.

Someone drank the Koolaid...We didn't create this booking system, the kind folks at Disney did. It allows a ton of preplanning and structure for people who want to plan out their vacations and maximize their success at achieving desired events. It is a great system for those who fully understand it but it doesn't mean squat when the people in charge change hours on short notice or fail to release schedules for major upcoming events (RoL).

I love your Disney bounding thread!

Good morning everyone :)

With all this non-existant info on what's gone happen with ROL I have decided I am going to be playing the handicapped card if that is my only choice to see it. I really wanted to get a dining package so I do not have to take up a wheelchair spot but with Disney being this noninformative and indecisive about whats going to happen with ROL. I cannot wait two or more hours in line - it simply isn't going to happen with 3 kids and me in an ECV. Now Disney is making me feel real bad that I have to take a wheelchair spot from someone who could have used it more than me. Oh, and I have also decided we will not do TH after all - if they don't want my money for a dining package, then they're not gonna get my money for a character meal either.

This is really getting to me, isn't it o_O
Please don't feel bad! That's what those spots are for! People that need them and you are one of them. You are paying an arm and a leg for your trip, I'm sure. You should be able to enjoy it and if a handicap spot helps you to enjoy it, then use it. You are not abusing the system. The system is there for those who need it and you do need it.

Yes. Two families that we know went last year. Completely blindsided. Had a terrible time, told everyone and refuse to go back.
My sister is heading into MK with her daughters for 1 day only, this week. Spring Break! I asked if she already had tickets, MDE, any fastpasses because it will be super crowded. She was shocked you couldn't just buy tix at the window mid-day and expect to meet Anna & Elsa. I'm doing my best to walk her through. But really, it's too late. I wish she had told me sooner so I could help.
I really feel for the average person who sees a tv commercial and just buys tickets once they get to WDW thinking they can do what they saw in the ad.

Oh wow! That's rough - I hope that they have fun!

I so agree with you about the tv commercial - I was thinking the last time I saw it that I would ask the CM with the wings to get me into ROL! I think it's so weird that they have that ad like that when they have a system that is suited to more and more pre-planning - weird! It should be a commercial of us crazy people staring at their computers trying to get their ADRs and FPs!

:surfweb:

Local friends always seem to want to tell me about their Disney trips - I think because they know we love to go! A lot of the families I hear from lately say things along the lines of...."our kids loved it but that's it for me! Not going back! Too stressful, etc. Why would you ever want to go back?" My advice (when asked!) is to do your research but be ready to adapt - but Disney doesn't make it easy!!

@LSUfan4444 I am always prepared for flexibility :) this trip is the first trip where I have to rely on an ECV to get round because of an accident. There are so many things that I simply don't know what to expect and how to handle. So those things that I actually have to control over beforehand, I want to take care of. I have a pretty resonsible 11yo kid who has told me numerous times he will take care of his little sister and he will take on stroller duty. But he's just that - a kid. He doesn't need to be the caring adult for his little sister so if I can take that off his shoulders before the trip, I will do it. Disney isn't very helpful though my only partially giving out information and changing things left and right. It makes me feel bad that I'm not as prepared as I should be and that I have to take help in things that I wouldn't need if Disney got their act together. I know, not my fault but it still makes me feel bad.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement!! I appreciate it!

All of this makes me wonder, what do people who are not really paying attention to all things Disney before their trip - and I know they're out there - what do they do? Are they just blindsided when they get there?

Still trying to regroup...

I know i'm replying way late to this… had date night and went to see Batman vs Superman. I'm on "team Amazon" and proudly wore a Wonder Woman themed outfit. On the way back home we saw a car hit a cat. (just was in the wrong place/wrong time.) The cat seemed like it could be okay after medical attention, so we brought it in my coat to the local vet ER. There I was in the ER holding a black cat wrapped in my coat with my wonder woman outfit, what a crazy friday night. It turned out the kitty was going to be okay (head trauma, broken leg) but needed to go to a rescue shelter because it had no collar, no chip. The cars coming behind us wouldn't have seen the black cat lying on the road, so I'm glad we stopped. The driver had also stopped, came to the ER, and brought the cat to the rescue shelter. After recent crappy events in the news, it restores my faith in the goodness of people to see the driver help out and care about an animal.

Okay back to your post….. I'm helping organize a group of about 30 for this summer. Only 1/3 are Disney-savvy. The others a) are so novice they almost bought tickets to DisneyLAND, b) just want to "go with the flow" with little/no plans. I'm trying to help the folks in group A, because they want to understand and plan. I've cautioned the group B folks that if you "go with the flow" you might be flowing to all the places and experiences that other families DON'T want. You might be floating around finding cafe/counter service because restaurants may be booked, etc. I don't take on their stress, I just advise and let them have their experience. (I do hope for the best of course.)

Thanks for telling us about the cat. It makes me feel good too, that the driver stopped and helped.

People who have never been there, or haven't been there in several years, just don't understand the necessity for at least basic planning of dining, park choice and the FPs for rides that are MUST DOs. The ones who don't, can still have some great experiences, but are often the ones who are the biggest complainers that it's too crowded/too expensive/corporate greedy.

We plan plan plan, but once we are there, often things do get changed up, but I have no expectations about getting 7DMT or BOG reservations at the last minute. Sometimes you can luck out, but how many times have you been checking in to BOG and are behind someone who just walks up without a reservation. Does it workout sometimes? Sure, but in most cases, they are going to end up back at Casey's, Cosmic Ray's, or Pinocchio's...

We also build in OPEN time in every day, so that folks can just do what they want to.

People who haven't experienced this just can't understand. And those that want to just go with the flow, are usually disappointed.

But to have all our plans (made weeks and months ahead of time out of necessity created by the way Disney operates) go up in smoke because less than 3 weeks before our trip they decide to change something, or not have info about something, that's just very hard to take. Pretty hard to change ADRs and FPs that late in the game. Lots of letters need to be written on this one, I think.

I hear you. As a former "wing it" who found it necessary to comform to being a planner, I am disappointed in the monster which Disney itself is creating. It sure ISN'T about me, it's about $$$$$$$$. The heck with the peons.

As for people who are first timers who are caught unaware or are overwhelmed by the crowds, the lack of being able to walk into a restaurant and treat their family to a magical meal, the long wait times and decide it's too stressful or not worth it (in both time and money) then it's like a local hairstylist said, when someone complained about the over the top prices, "well I got your money once. If i get people to sit in my chair 1 time, that's all I need; I've made my money".
