rumor regarding caricell of progress

I love the Carousel of Progress but I only get on it when I'm doing Magic Kingdom thoroughly ...something that is much rarer these days.

I would like Disney to give a shot at updating the ride. Some of the earlier scenes probably aren't meaningful to people born after 1970. I was born in 1959 and it took me quite a while to even notice that in one scene there were cords strung all over the place using the limited electric service in the house.

If I ruled Disney I'd make the first and last scenes very similar except that in the last scene the similar looking family life will be powered by solar and labor intensive items like making and maintaining clothing would be eliminated (not clothing eliminated just the work that goes with it). I'd also make the transitional scenes ones that people can relate to more easily. Finally I might add a museum to host the original Worlds Fair scenes. And yes with all of that putting it in EPCOT might make more sense. And if moving it means building a new ride mechanism then maybe it could be made larger.

That said I have to wonder how expensive could this be? As compared to a rollercoaster or the world of energy.

I was born well after 1970 and I think the early scenes are the best. It gives me a chance to see what life was like in the time before my parents and I can remember. I also like the idea of a Carousel of Progress that covers the 20th century more than a Carousel that lops over into the 21st century. First off, I've already seen that family in the 21st century (Horizons was the literal sequel to Carousel of Progress, complete with the same family and voices.) No need to rehash it. Second, the last Tomorrowland refurb was to a retro future rather than an actual future. So, I think Carousel works well the way it is.

Now if they chose to go back to having an Horizons-style sequel attraction over at Epcot again, I probably wouldn't complain . . . ;)

I enjoy the attraction the way it is... if they can "add" a scene to it (maybe the room we end up in which is also the entrance....curtain down at beginning and have it up for the finale with a 2195 scene?) thats fine... but the older scenes are cool....as the previous poster already said seeing the way things were 100 years ago and how they progressed is very very interesting! Also as yet another poster mentioned this one has Walt written all over it, and is the dog actually modeled after Walt's pet dog?

i heard from another disser, that there are plans to move this to epcot's future world.

anyone heard anything?

spell check . . . . ..

if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say it

...but there's a biiiig difference between caricell and Carousel, I don't think pointing out that fact is a problem

It's being replaced by the Carousal Of Progress : The History of Brewing Through The Ages.
that would of course lead to a SPILL check.

i love the older parts also, very interesting!. i still think though it's an odd ride out, everything else in the magic kingdom is "magical". and hey, to the last poster, leave us alone!

If you are going to post on forums, then try and spell things right. Incorrect spelling diminishes EVERYTHING you say and no one will take you seriously. Even your signature line has incorrect spellings of simple words. No one begrudges a typo or a word that is pretty close.. but when its so far off, thats another story. Besides, there is a built in spell check... look for dotted red underlined words... those are mispelled.

Rumors about the CoP {Ha! no worry about spelling there!} being moved, torn down, redone, etc., etc. have been around longer than dirt..........;)

Yes, the dog was in fact modeled after a dog that Walt owned. He is also in the PoC, the scene with the keys in his mouth, and the pirates attempting to coax them away from him.

It's not going any where. It's not even seasonal any more. (where as sounds dangerous is seasonal now, and we all know what happens then (SEE: Wonders of Life and/or Timekeeper)

The sad thing is I can't even remember what WOL is. I've been 17 times and counting. I always choose slower times to go, and I'm guessing that's why I haven't seen it in so long. I seem to remember riding it as a child, but it has never been open when I've been there.
And while we're on the subject... What's Timekeepers? I haven't seen that one either. :confused3

Both of these attractions no longer exist. That would be why you are unfamiliar with them.

Well Wonders of Life was a full pavilion, inside a large, bright dome. It housed different attractions, like Body Wars (similar to Star Tours) and Cranium Command (a show where you're inside the head of a boy), and smaller attractions inside.

Timekeeper used to be where Monsters Inc. is now in Tomorrowland. It was a 360 circlevision movie with Robin Williams playing the timekeeper and went to find different famous inventors or something. I can't recall exactly how it went, but it was good.

Ahhhhhh yes! I think I DO remember that!!! You were shrunk down to the size of a germ and sent through blood vessels! Right?

Yup...kinda Fantastic Voyage-y. I don't remember the details, but I remember it being more bumpy than Star Tours. It featured Tim Matheson and Elisabeth Shue in the video.

Well the building is still there, but it's used for special events like during the Food and Wine festival, they have wine sampling

Otherwise, it's just a vast, empty, wasteland.....nice goin' Disney!
Oh yea, and so is what used to be the Odessey restaurant. :sad2:

COP needs to stay where it is. My family loves this ride. Its A big part of Magic Kingdom IMO.

CoP isn't going anywhere yet... There are plans for that huge footprint in that area of Tomorrowland, but CoP won't be going anywhere.. of course, with Disney, things change minute to minute...
