*Rumor* Iger at WDW

That's a good point, we've never done that. If it's still open in September, we'll give it a go!

Ask the CM when you come in where to sit to get picked. Then be prepared to jump up and down like a mad-(wo)man when they call on your section. Still might not get picked, but ups the chances.

I'm guessing some of the money is going to go towards Epcot and maybe even a new nighttime show at MK?

Isn't the cars ride in DLR very similar to Test Track? I've never been on it but I've watched POV videos of the cars ride and other than the theme and the race between 2 cars at the end, the whole concept seems very similar. I definitely get Disney wanting to duplicate rides to save time and money, but I'd rather seem them push the boat out a bit.

The mechanism is the same as test track, but the experience/ride is way better. I always make the comparison like this: It's a Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean have the exact same ride mechanism (shallow bottom boats in tracks), yet somehow you don't feel like they are the same ride.

That said, even though RSR is fantastic, I really don't want them to clone it in Florida - I would much prefer unique rides. I think cloning rides from Paris and/or Asia in the US is fine, but in general I prefer them not to clone ALL the rides between DLR and WDW - those a two parks that people can (and as Disney fans SHOULD) get to try, and if all the new rides are the same in both places that becomes a lot less interesting. Cloning a ride like TSMM - a very basic ride, is fine, but something as unique as RSR should leave to its own space.

That's how I feel exactly. We are planning on going to DLR for the first time next February and I am very excited that they have rides I've never been on. I want people who live in SoCal to WANT to visit WDW for a different experience as well. I read somewhere the DLR has more rides between the 2 parks than WDW in 4, is that true?

I think HS will get at least 1 unique attraction, but maybe the rest will be duplicates. Especially any Star Wars attractions.

Knowing nothing about this (seems some have heard there would be a Pixar place and a Star Wars section), it makes sense to me that they would port the Cars Race ride from California Adventure over to Disney World. It seems they usually opt for existing rides over designing new ones. With Midway mania that gives them 2 pixar rides, and so maybe one more and they call it a day?
I'm with you. Create a smaller scale RSRs to be the anchor of the area and draw people in. I've been saying all along that there would be an anchor, and RSRs is the perfect candidate. The plans we've heard have them building spinners and other small attractions. I'd look up WDS and HKDL Toy Story Lands and Cars Land attractions outside of RSRs for inspiration. So I'd say when this is all said and done they'll have TSMM, (hopefully) a D or E Ticket, and three or four other spinners. We'll just have to wait for D23 to get the full word, but I feel like the Pixar part of the DHS upgrades has been largely overshadowed by Star Wars. Geographically, the parcel of the land for Pixar is actually bigger than that of SW. They have a lot of space to fill.

I'm guessing that by the time this is all said and down Tower of Terror, Aerosmith Coaster, Star Tours and Midway Mania will be the only rides/attractions leftover from the DHS days. Then again, that's pretty much all the rides they currently have.. ins't it? lol.
Yeah basically. Hopefully The Great Movie Ride survives in some fashion too. Minus the Alien scene. That part is too much for me. lol

Am I correct in that no one really knows what the board approved other than it was "billions"? And that we are hoping to hear what has been approved at D23 in August?

Also (these are honest questions, I don't know much about this), presumably if these were new plans they wouldn't have much to show at D23. So it is more likely these plans have been in development for sometime and are just now getting signed off on?

You are correct for the most part. The board approved a massive budget. They already have a lot of the concepts for DHS ready we just don't know what they are. I think the biggest assumption is that there will be something done with Star Wars in this budget. There has been nothing that says cars is coming as of yet. As for rides left you are correct except for GMR that is also likely staying.

A new nighttime show at MK has supposedly been in the works for a while so that is possible. RSR in DCA uses the same ride system as test track.

Off topic for the thread - it is technically true that there are more "rides" at DLR than WDW, but there is still a lot more to DO at the four parks in Florida than at the two in California. (I couldn't see spending more than 4 days at DLR.) DL has about 30 rides, while DCA probably has about 20, but if you throw out the worthless amusement park rides in Bug's Land and Paradise Pier that # drops to about 10. The DLR parks are much more "ride"-centric than the Florida parks, but we will go an entire day at WDW parks without going on a ride.

That said, DLR is well worth a trip for a Disney fan! World of Color and Carsland alone are two of the best things Disney has ever produced (in the USA). And riding the classics in DL is so awesome, just different enough to make each one worth the ride. Plus you can stay "off-site" much easier and save $$$. We're heading out next February as well, for our third visit in 5 years.

Lee at wdwmagic says it's very likely that disney gives info about current projects at D23 and then just teasers of things to come at DHS.

Spirit says that BILLIONS will be spent in WDW very soon but not all of it on DHS. The vast majority of it will be spent there tho.
The last billion dollar investment was a bit of a bummer. Hopefully this one is a legitimate consumer focussed investment.

A few CM's at the time said that this wasn't true. I always believed that it was just an excuse.
It seemed plausible enough to me, I once read an article talking about building Epcot and it really seemed like a nightmare. With that said, I guess the reason Horizons sat empty so long was because DAK bombed, the tech bubble popped, and 911 happened. Coupled with the fact TT went millions over budget and was delayed in opening. Still a whole mess of issues right there.

As great as RSR is, that should remain a DCA exclusive in my opinion. System is too similar to Test Track and a lot of money would go into the rock work. And let's be honest, the ride wouldn't be the same without the rock work.

Crush's Coaster or Ratatouille would be better rides to clone if they don't want to spend a lot developing a new ride.

Though you saw what some of them said over at WDWmagic about just pushing it back until the 50th. It could be a while...

Well they did one park at a time with this. MK and Epcot were done fairly quickly. DTD also was done pretty quick as well. DHS started later and then AK started after DHS started:
Dave at wdwmagic says that an announcement for WDW Star Wars at D23 is unlikely but disneyland announcement is.

That's a bummer.

I only hope they have their ducks in a row about this thing and are waiting to announce it right before shovels hit the dirt.

I hope this stuff is ready before my 2 and 3 year old are teenagers, with the way disney has been with construction lately, i wouldnt be surprised.

Or are we setting ourselves up to be let down by Iger and company yet again at WDW?
