Just wanted to share with everyone here...I just read a rumor posted on another board about security Cast Members in Florida saying that a total selfie stick ban is coming to both WDW and DL in the US.

California Screamin was shut down and evacuated because of a selfie stick.

Also, I read that a light on the Matterhorn was broken by a selfie stick. They need to ban them before someone looses an eye.

I follow the DLR news and rumour mills pretty closely and it seems like every day there is someone on Reddit.com/r/disneyland purporting to be a cast member complaining that California Screamin was shut down due to a selfie stick... For the past 2 weeks, it has really been almost every day.

Interesting. I can almost believe this is true. They have tried banning their use on rides, but as long as people have them in their hands, they're going to be tempted to take them out and still use them.

Some people will use them no matter what because they think rules don't apply to them. The only way to stop their use is to not allow them to be brought into the park.

Part of the problem is yes, people think rules don't apply to them. But I also think part of the problem is that people just don't know. The signs are not very visible. We were there for 2 days and only saw 1 no selfie stick sign.

When we were there 2 weeks ago space mountain was shut down because of a selfie stick right before we got on. There is a sign stating no selfie sticks, but we missed it the first time through the line. The line was moving so quickly we didn't even see it. My sister pointed it out the second time through, after it was back up, but the line was moving slower then. If my sister hadn't pointed it out, I still wouldn't have seen it. The one sign we saw was inside the line, on the right hand side, in the little doorway just before you go into the big loading room. I have no idea if there are other signs, we didn't see any.

I hope they ban them as well. I can't even believe people don't have the common sense to know they can't use them on a ride, especially a roller coaster. Should we really need signs for this? All loose articles are supposed to be secured anyway. Doesn't that cover it? Get rid of them!

Signs should NOT be needed! However I am all for a sign at the entrance that says something like "No Selfie Sticks in the park. All sticks will be confiscated and you will be asked to leave the park immediately no refunds!" CM if needed can point to the sign at entrance. There is no way you can convince me they are a 100% necessity.

I was there a couple weeks ago . . . and was chatting with one of the conductors on the train and he said they were going to be banned on June 18th. Obviously that hasn't happened but perhaps it is in the works. He said it was going to be done at bag check.

I hope they ban them! They are all over the place and so annoying.

Matterhorn has at least two signs up.

Its been in the media so much lately if DL does not ban them from the parks they are setting themselves up for a big lawsuit if/when someone does get injured due to one of these idiot sticks. Get rid of them already.

Banning from the park is ridiculous. Used as intended (to take a group picture) harms no one. Using in a dangerous fashion should be cause for confiscation, but not for a guest using them in a safe manner. Should we ban strollers because they sometimes run into people? And no, I’ve never used one.

Here's the sign at BTRR:

Ha! I took a pic of that same sign!

I wish they were already banned. I had a kid hit with one in a crowd, and I can't tell you how obnoxious they are on rides. Riding on dark thematic rides like Pirates when suddenly someone in the row in front of you whips out not only a super bright phone but then extends it on their selfie-stick so it illuminates the entire boat just kills the entire atmosphere and is very rude.

I read an article today that WDW will ban them beginning June 30th. I don't know when DLR will start.
