Rumor: Fast Pass Restrictions?

Fast pass times are not being enforced because the system was broken. They were talking about this on another podcast and said that about 80% of people use their fastpass within the allotted hour. (Although I would guess any poll on the boards would show a much lower percentage.)

Which podcast is talking numbers?

The number I actually heard was that 80% are actually used in the first 10 minutes of the window! Most of the rest are used within the hour, with a few percent later.

As for the poll, which I already expected to be skewed, it currently shows just under 40% definitively use FPs later in the day, vs. the never or occasionally late. A bit greater than I was expecting, but not surprising. Only 4% did not know of the old policy.

Unfortunately, the poll really doesn't mean anything (skewing acknowledged or not)unless we know how much of the population the people voting in the DISboards represents those attending WDW. For example, if DISboard voters only represent 5% of all those attending WDW, then the poll doesn't really tell us anything.

Now, it's an interesting result but I think it's also interesting in the comments of your poll that a lot of people said that they usually went during the time frame specified but sometimes were a bit late and therefore voted for the occassionally late choice. To me, that also skews the results because being 5 or 10 minutes late for the fast past time isn't the same as coming 4 or 5 hours later.

WDW Today just had a whole episode about the fast pass changes and how it might affect how people tour the parks. It was really interesting.

The poll was SPECIFICALLY for how they are used by DISers. So it tells us how DISers use it, EVEN KNOWING that they could be used late.

It was never meant to be a true random sampling of J. Random Guest, and I only have unverified numbers of actual usage, but the poll actually provides an upper-bound for the mathematics.

Being a mother of young children this may affect me. Will it ruin my trips to the parks. NO..... but it will make things more difficult at times if the baby has a blow out diaper and we have to take care of that.. or one wants to eat and the time is coming up. I mean it is hard enough to manage a family of 4 in the parks without having to run to catch a fastpass time that I didnt set. Sorry to be the thorn in the backside but the reality is I like the freedom to return later if need be. You never know what your kids are going to do and alot of times I am a single mom in the parks with an infant. Not everyone has older children that understand you can eat after the fastpass time. Just another point of view folks. :confused3

I was telling my sister about this today, she is not a DIS'er. She knows about FP from me. The first thing she said was..."So you mean you would have to go all the way to the FP machines at Soarin' to find out whether or not the time frame works for you?" ... I hadn't really thought of that, but it is a hike to Soarin, then go in the building and down the escalator to the FP machines and the Oooops, the window is the same time as your ADR or in the middle of the time you planned for a break back at the resort, or whatever. Maybe they will move the machines, but for now, what a pain.

if they want to do this they should put some machine by guest service so you can get the fast pass then try to get the adr so you know when you can make them. Or in the morning have a cm with an ipad by the more popular ones who can change an adr or make it and if you change it with them with in at least 4 hours they waive then 10 no show fee as long as you change it or make a new one. because it will still give them the money and get guest to follow their policy. I know your say if their full then they can't make an adr your out of luck but i say they should hold back a certain amount for same day for this purpose and for walk ups.

It will hurt disney in the long run because if you decide that you want to do the fast pass and skip your adr they lose the money then decide to do quick service instead. they will have to look at after a couple months why they have a drop in revenue at their sit down restaurants and may be they will change the policy ot something everyone can live with.

Disney already has this covered...charging $10 for the missed ADR while still being able to seat a walk up. I see the ADR charge expanding to more TS meals than it is now.

Yes but the ten dollar charge is not enough to make them a profit or cover their coast for the day. So yes they have it and yes hey most likely will expand it to more places. Disney makes their money on the meal and at the end of the day the day dollars won't cut it to the higher ups at Disney they wil have to make changes if their profits drop and they can pin pointit to the new policy they have to look at it. Disney just like every other company is profit driving so at the end of the day they care more about losing money then a guest using a late fast pass. They are enforcing it to make way for the nexgen stuff that will bring them more money in guest stay on property to get to use it.

I agree that they are paving the way for NexGen, but I disagree that enforcing the FP return time will result in a sharp drop off of people missing ADR's. Seemingly there are a large percentage of guests, maybe 80%, who don't know that you can return later than the FP window and for those who do know, say 20%, I would think it doesn't happen all that often that the return time is the same time as an ADR and when it does I'm guessing a larger percentage would opt for their ADR over using the FP.

I have a bigger issue with it already being a juggling act to work out seeing alot of shows, especially at AK and DHS with the FP enforcement. It's already tricky to work out a schedule to see the shows we enjoy at AK now without having to re-do everything to accomodate FP windows too.

yes your right it might not be that big or something they notice but their will be a little drop. because on the back of the ticket is still says you must come back in the time frame i learned you could come back late by a manager in ak at the safari ride. The only time i had a problem was at buzz with a cm rudly saying they may start enforcing the time due to the mickey meet and greet. Wanted to say if tsm dose not bat an eye over late fast passes and they deal with a lot more guest then buzz dose.
